Help! DVD-RW can't do anything?!

Post by CFELIX52 »

Hello.
I have a done a few DVD+RW editing right on the disc after burning a movie using my standalone burner and NOT finalizing the disc.
Now I have a DVD-RW, I have burned the movie onto the disc, again NOT finalizing it. I put it in my drive and clicked import.. nothing, the import is not available. Next I tried to go to Edit Disc and it says "Failed to Enumerate". Next I figured I would try to copy the disc (into Hard Drive maybe?), click that ok, and I get "Either Disc is Blank or Open Session. If it is Open Session, close the session"

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? What I WANT to do is put this into the Hard Drive so I can do my editing there (chapters etc.).

Thanks!!

I think your answer is in bold. You need to close the session.

You will have to finalize the disk for your PC to be able to read it.

Ok Finalized, but how do I get it to the Hard Drive?

Ok, I have finalized the disc. It seems that I can only get into Edit Disc option.... and I am trying to figure out how to save it to the hard drive, I don't want to edit straight to disc..thanks

Use the import dvd to get the mpeg2 file onto your harddisk for editing.
From there you could create a standard dvd or create a new -VR disk using one of the other modules.

Still Not Working!

Ok, I am getting frustrated. I have tried to do "Import from DVD" with a finalized DVD-RW, and it give me the message "DVD Disc with CSS Protected Report ID 0x80040907(2311)."
So I record on a new DVD-RW, I do NOT finalize it. I go to ulead "Import From DVD", and it is inactive, so I can not click the button.
What the hell am I doing wrong? I read that a DVD-R is supposed to let you put into the hard drive, is a -RW different?
Please Help!

Ok so after I got the above responses, I finalized the DVD-RW. I open Ulead, click Import, Import From DVD. I get the Select DVD Title window with the Import DVD Folder & Import Button, and I click the Import Button. I then get this message DVD Disc with CSS Protection. Report Id: 0x80040907(2311).

So, I get a new DVD-RW, and burn onto that with my standalone burner. This time I DO NOT finalize. I open Ulead, click Import From DVD, get the Select DVD Title window, I see Import DVD Folder Button, & Import Button, but the Import Button is inactive and I can not select it.

What the heck am I doing wrong? According to my response to my post above, a DVD-RW can be put on the harddrive. That is not happening.
Please help.

Why do you keep on "Not Finalizing" the dvd-rw? The dvd needs to be finalized for windows to read it. Certain programs can read an un-finalized dvd if you have the packet writing software installed and accessing the dvd from within a capable program, depends.

You can always put the dvd-rw back into the recorder and "Unfinalize" the dvd-rw disk written in -VR mode.

There are workarounds for that error, (2311) actually to type in the workaround is alot of typing, but the problem could be in your dvd reader. Nero may work to import the dvd but it's slow.

This should work, when you put a new dvd-rw into the recorder format the dvd-rw as DVD-VIDEO Disk and NOT the -VR mode. Your dvd recorder should give you the option whether to format the dvd-rw disk as either -VR or dvd-video.
Then record your video onto it and FINALIZE the DVD. Import that dvd-rw written as a DVD-VIDEO disk into MF. That should work. Your recorder should write the dvd-rw as a standard dvd with vob containers and a menu system. You can always reformat for dvd-rw disk for re-use and other recordings after transferring to the computer.

One important note with your recorder (which you never posted what model your using..). Do not put title protection or any protection on because after importing the videos they may not play correctly in a dvd player. They will play on the computer but not on a commercial dvd player correctly.
