Reduce Noise

Post by randazzo »

Anyone uses the "reduce noise" filter? Which settings apply best?

No, I don't! If I need noise reduction, I always use the free Audacity, which is infinitely better at the job, and I recommend others to do likewise. Audacity uses a cancelling technique, while Ulead uses a clipping technique, which is comparatively iffy.

That's what I meant (the video "reduce noise" feature).

Sorry! I use audio noise reduction much more often than video, so I mistakenly jumped to the wrong conclusion. In fact, I can recollect using video NR only once, on an analogue shot of some mongooses in Kenya, playing in a forest clearing, on a dark night. I was able to tweak the video to show them clearly (and even the colour of the grass), but the VHS-C noise was rather objectionable. Sorry, can't remember the settings. However, I believe it works by toning down the colour and sharpness of odd pixels towards that of surrounding pixels, to give an averaging effect.
