I'am new to using VS10 I'm mainly going be using it for editing mpeg2 video.. Ive got a couple of Questions..
1.. How do i turn of relink checking permently its starting to annoy me a little ive tried unchecking it in the preferences and applying but when i close VS and load it back up again its checked again..
2.. Is It Possible to set a new defualt for the out put settings so i dont have to keep going to project preferences and ticking 2 pass mode and moving the slider to 100 quality
Last question Does anybody know how to stop VS closing on me when saving a video..What happens is that i load the video multitrim it a bit then go to share Then Save as same as project settings it will then start rendering the video get so far through and stop some times its 89% and sometimes its 49% .. Its then closes down so i have to reload the saved project i did and then save and it goes through fines
If anyone can help i will be very gratefull
Thanks

I don't know the real answer to your questions, but since you are editing MPEG-2 (hopefully DVD compliant MPEG-2) you should avoid re-coding it. MPEG is lossy encoding, and it takes time. This generally means checking Same As Project Settingsand Smart Render, except if Smart Render is corrupting your files... see below... Of course, if you splice together two MPEGs with different properties, at least one will be re-coded.I'am new to using VS10 I'm mainly going be using it for editing mpeg2 video.. You may have to find a procedure that works for your particular MPEG files. That may mean avoiding multi-trim and smart render. The Ulead programs sometimes have trouble with some MPEGs, and these two features seem to aggravate the problems.Last question Does anybody know how to stop VS closing on me when saving a video..What happens is that i load the video multitrim it a bit then go to share Then Save as same as project settings it will then start rendering the video get so far through and stop some times its 89% and sometimes its 49% .. Or, if you can avoid MPEG and capture to AVI/DV format, that should solve your problems. You should be OK if you let Video Studio convert your DV file to MPEG-2 once when you are done editng, and then don't touch the MPEG.
Not all usesrs have these problems, but personally, I simply gave-up on ediiting MPEGs with Ulead. I still use Ulead for DVDs authoring & burning (usually DVD Workshop), but I use Womble for MPEG editing. (No more crashing or "lip-sync" problems!)

So as a question: After capturing DV and I make some edits and then output an MPEG with VS10+, IF I see a need to go back and re-edit the MPEG files, Womble MPEG Video Wizard is the way to go and not VS? I have not had to do this but could see a possibility down the road.DVDDoug wrote:Not all usesrs have these problems, but personally, I simply gave-up on ediiting MPEGs with Ulead. This assumes I no longer have the original DV files or it may be faster to just do a quick edit without pulling up a large AVI (DV) and re-editing in VS10+.
I wouldn't exactly say that. Some people never have these problems with MPEGs. It's one solution if you do have problems.IF I see a need to go back and re-edit the MPEG files, Womble MPEG Video Wizard is the way to go and not VS?
You could also try converting the file back to DV before editing. Since DV is less lossy than MPEG, that conversion-loss should not be noticable. And, depending on the type of editing, the file may need a 2nd MPEG encode in either case. (At least one person who tried this techinque reported still getting "lip-sync" problems.)

The reason you get a relinking message is because you have either moved, deleted or modified the files that you were originally using.lip wrote:.......1.. Sorry Doug, I don't want to contradict you here:
After that you have to render it again to mpeg2, taking another quality hit.
Maybe I¡¦m stupid, but I fail to see any advantage in converting an mpeg to DV and back again.
If, like I do, you get lip sync problems with edited mpegs, forget about editing with VS or MSP for that matter (I use MSP predominantly) and, if you cannot go back to original DV-AVI source material, use an mpeg editor like Womble. At least that seems to have worked for a number of people.
What, exactly, would you be trying to achieve with this? The only thing perceivably to happen, would be a noticeable drop in quality. Recoding a compressed mpeg2 to DV-AVI is not going to give you DV quality. Where would the data to be reconstituted come from?DVDDoug wrote:...

The issue of VS not doing a good job at trimming segments out of mpeg clips and rejoining has been noted a number of times in this forum. Is this to be expected as a result of the mpeg format or is this a bug in VS?
I came across this problem when capturing my 25Mbps HD video to computer . I wanted to archive 4GB (20mins) to each DVD burning the file as a mpg data file. Some simple trimming and rejoining with VS caused problems when played back in various software players. Sync problems and not being able to fastforward.
My fix was to remux these files with Videoredo. There seems to be a consensus that mpeg editing is best done outside of VS?
Would Ulead support care to comment?
