Project Audio

Post by cockaigne »

I didn't receive any replies to my previous question of audio problems in project playback, so I loaded VS10+. Same problem, audio plays in clip preview but in project playback is only noise. I borrowed a Mediastudio 8 and tried it and the same results. All the VS, 9,10 and Media studio played the audio track in clip mode but not in project mode. I tried more than one clip and the same. I rendered a project and there was only noise on the audio track. What to do?

Please tell us something about your file format, and how you captured it. The Read This First... post at the top of the forum tells you what we need to know in order to help you.

If it's an AVI file, please give us the details/properties... An AVI file can contain anything from DivX to DV.

What's the audio format? If you are importing a separate audio track, try converting it to a WAV file first.

FYI - The more-compressd formats (both audio and video) seem to cause the most trouble.

I'm capturing from a Nikon digital camera which uses .MOV video format. I have used a card reader on USB connection and then I used the USB camera connection. Both came out the same. LIke I said in the other post when I was using my Compaq noteook, I had no problems. Now with the new Dell there must be a tweak that I'm missing. I don't understand why the audio is good on the clip but not on the project, what would be the difference in retrieving the audio? If I split the audio, it is still the same; good in clip and just noise in project.

The MOV video file is a container. It can contain a variety of video formats, or more specific, codecs. What codec is the video file using, MJPEG..? Could you post the video file properties (including the audio) back here please?

Just as I started to post a reply, I decided to check one of my Kodak "MOV" files. Kodak uses the MOV file, with the MJPEG codec. This is basically the same as the PhotoJPEG that your Nikon uses. However I suddenly discovered I now had the same problem, white noise while previewing in Project mode. So knowing that I had been able to playback the files without the noise, I investigated why I had lost this ability.

What I found was that like other posts have stated, there is a problem with the current version of Quicktime (7.x). So I unistalled QT7, and installed QT 6.5., which resolved the problem.

More then likely you have QT 7 installed as this is what VS10+ installs or updates 6.5 to 7. If so uninstall QT, and then install version 6.5.

Thanks for that vidoman. I uninstalled QT7 and installed QT6.5 and sure enough I got my project audio back. I don't know how you managed to figure that out, but I'm glad you did. Now I can get back to my video making. Thanks again,
Cheers
