I submitted this the other day but it didn't show up in the VS forum listing....So modified the subject a bit and am trying again...
My original comments to this forum were centered on Region Codes and the sensitivity of DVD players to same... Having absorbed the idiosyncracies of my players...I now have the next level of problems..
I'm having problems with my test DVD's (+RW) playing on Windows Media Player (newly downloaded and installed V.11) and RealPlayer (win32 V.10.5) The video playback on both/either is great but there is no sound on either/both. (This is the same test DVD that works fine on certain of my DVD players so I know the sound is on the disc) (These same disc types work fine on audio CD's so I don't think the +RW is a problem.)
On the other hand the DELL installed media player works perfectly..!!
Tried downloading the MPEG fix listed in the ULEAD VS9 database as:
"Audio: Windows Media Player has no audio for DVD playback after installing UVS 9"
But when trying to unzip and install I get a lockout message looking for some kind of password.... And that ends that..
I'm wondering if this "fix" is the answer to my WMP and RP problems?
Checked all the video/audio codecs in both programs and it appears that the required ones are installed and enabled. Am I naive in the set up of these players or are there special codecs required? The installation VS9 did put a couple of codecs in the system.
And does anyone know what this "Password" is that the unzip is looking for?
Tx in advance.....
ULEAD fix for "No audio after VS9 install"

What's the audio format? A compliant NTSC DVD will have LPCM or Dolby (AC3) audio. (You should be OK with any of the NTSC templates.) I think the newer versions of WMP have a Dolby codec, but the older versions did not. You had to buy a 3rd party codec or use WinDVD or something similar.
Are these stand-alone (living room) players? Do you get the same symptom, video but no audio on any stand alone player? If that happens on a stand-alone player, you are using a non-compliant audio format. (Or, you have a corrupt MPEG-2 A/V file.)(This is the same test DVD that works fine on certain of my DVD players...
What? You can't really make an audio CD from a DVD blank... You can burn WAV or MP3 files into a DVD disc, but if it plays in anything other than a computer it's hit-or-miss....These same disc types work fine on audio CD's...
Correct. The audio and video are multiplexed together in the same VOB files. (The AUDIO_TS folder on a DVD is normally empty.) If it can read the video, it can read the audio (but that doesn't mean it can decode it). Some stand-alone players can't play R/W discs, some can't play "burned" discs at all. But if it can play the video, that's not the issue....so I don't think the +RW is a problem.

What was the origin of the files you used to create your test DVD'stallone wrote:I'm having problems with my test DVD's (+RW) playing on Windows Media Player (newly downloaded and installed V.11) and RealPlayer (win32 V.10.5) The video playback on both/either is great but there is no sound on either/both. Have you tried downloading Trial versions of WinDVD and/or PowerDVD to see if they work

No Audio after VS 9 Install
To DVDDoug and GeorgeW:
Sorry for the delay on this posting....
In the interim have come to the conclusion my problem has nothing to do with VS9 but rather that my computer Registry got hosed up somehow and the Windows Media Player and RealPlayer are not recognizing the codecs that I know are installed. Probably explains why the ULEAD fix for MPEG doesn't do anything.....
Tried a lot of things with WMP (including reinstalling a download from MS) and all that happened is that WMP disappeared from the Control Panel listing but still seems to work. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:
Tests on a number of other computers (friends) showed the VS 9 produced dvd works just fine!! So it's not a VS 9 problem....
Will probably forget about WMP and get another package like POWER DVD...
Appreciate your coming back at me.....
