There is a tutorial for this Creating DVD Menus from Scratch. It does require PhotoImpact, since the DVD menus used by VS and DVDMF are in the proprietary Ulead UFO file format.

Another $50 bucks eh

OK, not a big deal. Is there a better authoring software out there after VS10+ does it's thing MPEG thing.

I have no problem with authoring through VS10+ but what do others use that allow for more flexibility of creation? I have seen other tools that overlap VS10 but is there a powerful DVD authoring tool without editing / correcting stuff included?

Commercial DVDs have a time in the beginning where you can not go to the index. Like on some cheap movies where they make you watch the previews. I did not see where / how this can be done in VS10+

I am going to give a Yes and No to this answer.

YES.
DVD workshop 2. You can build more powerful DVD Menus completely from scratch and arrange your own playlists, select alternative audio tracks and add subtitles. There have been very few DVD Menus I have seen that I felt I would not be able to duplicate myself using DVD Workshop. Heck I cannot even remember what those might have been.

NO.
DVD Workshop 2 is a few years old and we have all been nagging the software company to either bring out a service pack or version 3.
The main problem with the current version is two fold.
1. No widescreen DVD Menu Support.
2. No Dolby 5.1

There are plenty of workrounds for those (and other) 'missing' niceties but please feel free to join the campaign here:
We Want Workshop 3

I can live without that for now so maybe it's worth a try.

Thanks!

Does DVD Workshop allow for multi cell menus? eg Cell 1 - intro with no buttons, Cell 2 - Main loop with buttons, Cell 3 - outro clip without buttons that plays when a button is selected. The result having almost, if not, seamless transitions between cells.

Edit: A good commercial example of this would be the "new" 'Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'. Or the American TV series 'Over There'.

I can do all this with other programs already, so this just a curiosity. The lack of 16:9 (and hence anamorphic capabilities) and Dolby 5.1 means I am unlikely to purchase DVD Workshop, but if such features are available I may recommend it to others for whom I think it will be appropriate.

peace.
