Killing Sound? On Overlay

Post by n3vpc »

Hi

I am working with video overlays and I want to kill the sound or audio on all video overlays and then just put background music into presentation while it’s being viewed, possible?

In VS10+, at the CLIP level you can hit the MUTE button (little speaker icon with an "X" over the icon -- next to the speaker level that starts at 100).

Are you trying to do it for ALL clips on the overlay track -- or at the CLIP level :?:

Sorry George.......

I should have stated: VS10.

also trying to do all four clips. The view I am getting shows 2 of the 4.

Where do you suppose the other 2 are hiding?

result.......................some slight audio in background.

n3vpc...sorry to bring bad news to you, but Ulead Video Studio 10 only has the main video track and one overlay. You mentioned 4 video tracks? You may want to consider Ulead Video Studio 10 plus for the additional video tracks.

Yes, joe I do have 10 plus BUT I can not kill the sound on the other two tracks. They are not showing up where George sent me.

Do you have a scroll bar (on the right side) :?:

Also, are you using the EDIT tab (EDIT / ATRRIBUTE tabs, use the EDIT tab).

Are you in the Video Editor (not the Create Disc Module) :?:

Also, are you in TIMELINE VIEW (instead of Storyboard View) :?:

In the VS10+ edit mode, just above the ruler above the timeline, there are a whole series of little icons. The second last on the right, if you hover your mouse over it, is the overlay track manager. If you are in timeline view, the icon is active. Click on it, and it will allow you to tick the overlay tracks where your 'missing' overlays may be...

I'm with you but how does that shut off the sound track?

If I un-click the boxes the video goes too?

If you tick those overlay tracks, you go to each one and then click on the video to select it. Usually, below the library pane, you will see two tabs, with the one labelled Attribute selected. Select the Edit tab to its left instead.

And at the top of that tab is the audio control with 100 in it. Either change that 100 to 0 or else you hit the mute button over to the immediate right (icon of a loudspeaker with a cross through it).

I just tested all this and it works...

Hi Ken,

Thanks so much for being there. It took a while here because I
could not hold your message open and do what it said at the same time
so I had to print it out. This was not a waste of time, that page will definitely go in my notes!

You were 100% correct. The only issue now is one you can’t fix. This is my first attempt (as you can probably tell!) at 4 track overlay but it seems that I just don’t have enough on board ram to drive the program. Regular slide shows or one-track video are fine (528Mg’s ram) but with this clip the program starts and then gets to hesitate, as it gets further along into it.

Thanks Again for your help today,

Bill

Not sure where you got 528 MB of RAM from -- normally it is 512 MB. And you don't give your other computer specs, which might also have something to do with it.

RAM is cheerfully cheap these days -- at least it is here in Australia. So I would certainly invest in another 512 MB stick. One GB seems to be a good figure for VS10 to work with (I have 2 GB).

As for reading a message on this Board and doing something in VS, you know you can toggle between the two by using the Alt+Tab buttons?

I didn't know that and thank you.

System is Pet. 4 clocked at 3,2 Ghz. You were right about the ram but I do believe that another 1 gig would not hurt.

New to DVD editing and I see it likes RAM. Runs the CPU up to about 90% when rendering so I think my next investment should be the RAM.

Thanks again for making the trip up from Austria today to help me, I
appreciate all of your time.
