Problem setting default transition in VS10

Post by saj1950 »

Hoping you can help me on this one. I'm running VS10 Plus and on the latest SP downloaded from the Ulead site.

I want to set the default transition in preferences to the Diagonal Wipe. But - when I choose Diagonal from the list, there are many named the same. So - I pick the Diagonal which is above Diamonds A as this corresponds to the sequence that the transitions are displayed in if adding one manually.

But - I always get Diagonal Build added! And when I go back into preferences, the first occurrence of Diagonal is the one that has been selected, and this seems to correspond to Diagonal Build.

Can anyone help me on this as I seem to have drawn a complete blank on the Ulead Tech Support side as the replies I receive just tell me to uninstall and reinstall - which I've done and this doesn't seem to help.

Hope the description of the problem makes sense - sounds like I'm going crazy :?

Thanks in anticipation........

This I have to say is definitely a bug. It is easily reproduced. It would appear looking at the menu when selecting the default transition, there are several Diagonal effects. However they all link to the Build effects.

If you have not already done so, please go to Ulead's website and complete a Tech Support Form describing this issue. I have also filed a report with them.

Until Intervideo/Ulead provides a fix, then I guess using that effect as a default is not possible. :(

Thanks for your quick reply!

At least it proves I'm not crazy  I have completed the Tech Support form already but they have not confirmed that it's a bug. Hopefully they will look at resolving this quickly.

Thanks again.

I may be particularly dense this morning, or else I am again having trouble with my transitions, but in my version of VS10+, there is only one Diagonal Wipe transition. It appears at least three times in the drop down list in File > Preferences, yes, but there is only one transition in the program which is actually called Diagonal in my Wipes category.

When I select it in File > Preferences, any one of the three, yes it shows in the timeline as 'Diagonal Build' and it is identical to the Diagonal in the Build category.

But beyond that, you have lost me. What is the problem? Is it the direction in which the diagonal wipe goes that you don't like? (By default, it appears to go from top left to bottom right, though in the transitions themselves, it appears to go from bottom left to top right.)

But to my mind, at least, it is still a Wipe and it is Diagonal; and also, being a Build, it is customisable.

In my version at least, when I click to highlight the transition in the timeline, then in the area directly below the library pane (which should now be showing the Wipe transitions), there is a space, which should be headed 'Diagonal Build' and you can then customise it to your heart's content, including choosing different directions, colour and even whether the edge of the transition is hard or soft...

But as I say, I may have missed something in your original post...

Ken,

What the OP's point is, that you can not set Diagonal Wipe as the default transition. All the Diagonals in Preferences... go to Diagonal Build. While it is possible to manually add them, the program should have the ability to use the Diagonal Wipe, to be automatically added, as any of the others, unless Ulead designed it that way.

Update

This problem does not occur in VS10+ alone. I checked VS8 &9, all have the same issue. The only common denominator is Burgers Transitions. I uninstalled them however no joy. I then found the Wipe.vfx file, renamed it to Wipe.old. VS rebuilt it upon reload. Still no joy..:( I can not find any file common to all versions that would affect them all the same. Strange, since each version has it's own VFX plug-in folder... :?
