Newb question-----
New to the forum & PI. Is there not an option to edit an object? Manual's useless, as well as help section. Why is it that when I select an object, then drag to create a new image that I no longer have the ability to create another selection w/in that object?
I can't seem to find this in any of the tutorials.........
Thanks.

Editing objects....
PI 10
After creating an object, I can no longer make any edits to this object, i.e. creating another object from this selection, e.g. lasso tool to create object--drag off window to create new image---make additional edits, i.e. "whiten eyes"...
Not sure if I need to "convert image to object", or "create new layer", or "place as base image". There's no option to create an additional selection as this object will not "deselect".
This seems so trivial, as I've watched all the videos & neither the manual/tutorials cover this.

I don't have PI-10, just 11 and 12...
Once you have created your object, do you have the drop-down menu that has the selections 2D Object, 3D Round, etc.. ? At the bottom should be Continue Draw. You must have the Path Object Tool selected to access those options.

Selecting the Continue Draw, allows you to, as it states, continue drawing on that object, or drawing additional objects that are on the same object layer.
Then if you want to add eyes to a face, shape, you would hold down the Alt key while adding the shape ontop of your existing shape.
If you really want to learn how to use PhotoImpact I highly recommend going to Pirc-bw.com and enrolling in their free course Beginner's Workshop. It sure taught me a lot about PI.

Re: Newb question-----
Did you ever get this answered? I had exactly the same problem yesterday. I scanned an image in. Saved it as Tif. Tried to edit it and kept getting a message that I had to "Select an Object First" . I went to the "Pick Tool" Clicked on it. I converted it to jpg. Saved it Reopend ed it. fought with it for a half an hour. Never could get it to where I could edit it.jverdone wrote:New to the forum & PI. Is there not an option to edit an object? Manual's useless, as well as help section. You are absolutely Right. The manual is worthless,

I know this is a little strange, however when you open an image it is the Base or Background, which is not an object. So what you need to do is either duplicate it by either right-clicking on it in the Layer Manager and selecting duplicate, or Select All (CTL+A) then copy and paste. Now you can erase it.
There are some tools that you can use on the base image, for example you can use the paint brush, and the clone tools.

It's more than a little strange; it is damned annoying. I also tried the paintbrush and that wouldn't work either. Oh well. I don't need that project anymore anyway.vidoman wrote:I know this is a little strange, however when you open an image it is the Base or Background, which is not an object. Strictly out of curiousity, where is Wavely, KS? I am your neighbor to the north in Omaha.

If you want to erase or edit parts of an image, you need to convert it to an object. For example, if you open a .jpg and you want to erase something, you need to right-click, select All, convert to object. Now you can erase to your heart's content.
You should also have Preserve Base Image unselected because even though you erase something, it won't show what you have erased if the base image is still visible.
