Thanks, where did you see that? What did you search for, just the name of the camera?

Just google your cam, but from the many thousands sold one person saying his port has broken doesn't mean they all will. I deal with hundreds of queries a week on my site, doesn't mean that each one has the same problem as another if they do share the same equipment.

Just because one Ford car of a particualr model breaks down doesn't mean they all will, too many variables.

Now, if several thousand posts could be found on the web saying that this has happened to owners, then AFTER DOING THE TESTING, you could say, yep, that's happened to me.

Rather than keep messing which will make the problem worse - hauppage card, juat a firewire card? No? It'll need drivers for the other facilities - firewire cards on theoir own have the driver supplied by xp.

Why not do the testing mentioned in the first post.

Then come back with the results, otherwise you are just going to go round in circles for the next 12 months and I don't have the time to keep writing this post.

If the camera is still under warranty that I would return it and get a new one to be sure. If the computer isn't recognizing the camera in the device manager than the firewire port on the camera might not work.

The device manager should show it as a video device.

If you have a friend that has a computer you can plug your camera into to see if it's the camera or the computer that has the problem.

Okay guys, thanks. I will get someone to lend me a camera to see if it is my camera or my computer. Thanks again.

And as a footnote to your use of a Hauppage capture card: that particular brand is notorious for not working -- or not working properly -- with third party software like Video Studio. For capturing using one of those cards, I think the general advice is to use the software which actually comes with the card. Then, when captured, you import into VS for editing.

However, this advice usually applies to capture from an analogue source. DV is DV is DV and should normally use the inbuilt Firewire drivers that come as part of XP.

Okay Ken, thanks. The Hauppague card is out and I used the CR-Rom it came with to remove all the drivers. Someone has offered to let me try my camera on their set-up and their camera on mine. So that will be my next step.

Went to friends, hooked JVC up and it worked, we then hooked my JVC to the same cable, no dice. So, i dropped it off at a JVC Authorized service center.
Thanks for all your help. I learned a few things during all this.
