c:\ is not accessible error

Post by petgabor »

Occasionally when I have PI12 open in the background and I work in a different program (not one in particular) suddenly PI12 pops-up, the 'c:\is not accessible' error message appears, all my other programs stop to respond (if during CD burning I'll have a nice coaster) then PI12 quits and all seems to work again fine. Any ideas what can cause this behavour and maybe a work around (apart from quitting PI12 because I use it all the time and since I also have the 'forget my preferencies' issue it is not much fun restarting it again and again)?

Check the Windows Event Log for error messages:

START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code appertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

Faulting application iedit_.exe, version 12.0.0.0, faulting module mfc42.dll, version 6.2.4131.0, fault address 0x0000439a.

Maybe someone can understand this, no workaround on Microsoft site for this...

Try removing any duplicate copies of mfc42.dll

CAUTION Do not rename the Mfc42.dll file that is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Microsoft Windows XP
1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. In the left pane, click All files and folders.
3. In the All or part of the file name box, type mfc42.dll.
4. In the Look In box, click My Computer, and then click Search.
5. When the search process is complete, right-click mfc42.dll, and then click Rename.
6. In the box that appears, type mfc42.old, and then press ENTER.

When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each Mfc42.dll file, except for the Mfc42.dll file that is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Note Do not rename the Mfc42.dll file that is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Note The file location appears to the right of the file name.
