problems with project size
I've downloaded the trial version of 10+ and when I import my footage, it automatically goes into a 720x480 file. I thought HDV was 1080i x 1920[/b]. Why is the file not 1080x1920[/b][/u]? And why can't I change it to that? Does the download version of not support HDV? Please advise. Thanks
Your going to have the read the FAQS and their are a lot of them. One quick answer is make sure you got all the support files with it.. Just because you downloaded the trial doesn't necessarily mean you got everything.. Ulead infamous about not including everything in just one download, so, re-check the product page, and read everything on the left side, it may have some components you havn't gotten. Even if it is a trial, the components will download and work.

Yes, the download version supports HD video.
Please read the HD Tutorial

for a step by step procedure for capturing and editing high definition video.

Unable to change project setting
Thanks for your prompt replies. I've looked over the tutorial, and I will again in greater depth tonight, but I can tell you that last night when I went in to all of the capture settings and project settings, I did not have an option to select anything other than 720x480 and below, ie 360x240 etc. There was no option for 1080x1920 or anything greater.
It is definitely version 10+, so I know it's the right download. I did see that the footage that I captured was much bigger than 720x480 ( I forget what but at least double ) but the project setting remained 720x480 and would not let me change it. I would imagine that having a project that size would cancel out having HDV files...

What is the make and model of your HD camcorder?
When capturing HD with my Sony HDR-HC1, Video studio offers NO chioce of capture format. However, if I have the camcorder set to downconvert to DV format, I have a choice of capture properties - none of them high definition. Check your camcorder settings. The tutorial explains how they should be set.
Also, be sure that you are using a firewire connection - NOT the USB connection - to capture.

Well, I've gone back in to Ulead 10+ and I still can't make a project any size other than 720x480...when I take a look at the properties of my captured footage, I see that it's 1440x1080, so I'm truly at a loss to understand why the project is 720x480. I tried everything from the tutorial, but no luck. I-link is off on my Sony, and 1080i is on....I guess I'll try Ulead tech support next and see if they've encountered this before. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Evidently, you have already captured some HD video. The frame size of 1440x1080 is correct.
Make a new Video Studio project. Drop one of your capture files in the timeline. Video Studio will offer to set Project Properties to match the video. Press the OK button. Copy the properties listed in the lower box on the first tab in MENU File/Project Properties. Paste them into your reply.

I think I've figured it out, with your help...I went back and looked at the tutorial, and saw that at the top of the capture screen it said MPEG2, 1440x1080. Mine said DVD-NTSC, 720x486. So I went in the Project Properties, "compression and changed it to MPEG2, then back to" general " in project properties and was finally able to select 1440x1080. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I guess I didn't see it before because the screen grab of the capture screen was so hard to read and maybe I was too hasty in reading. I do have one question left though: there is one more option for project size, ie 1920x1080. How do I make my video capture at that size? By creating a project that size and then proceeding to capture?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I think we are getting somewhere.
First, make sure that the Preferences General Tab have "Show Message when inserting first video clip into timeline" checked. (Otherwise, it will not offer to set your project properties to match the video.)
After you check this Preference, please try the experiment that I suggested above, again.
As to whether you can set the high def properties manually, you can, as you discovered. The mpeg template can be used to set a large number of detailed properties, including the 1920x1080 frame size that you asked about (read the tutorial for when to do this).
However, if Video Studio had read your capture file properties properly in the first place, you would have never had a problem.
Ulead/Intervideo: please get rid of the Preference that suppresses setting project properties to match the capture file properties.
