Photoimpact 3.01 Special Edition

After scanning an image and I attempt to save it ("save" or "save as") the Photoimpact program shuts down. Disappears right of the monitor.
After scanning, I can work with the image using all the tools but I cannot save it.

Of course this is an old edition of Photoimpact but I really like the program and I would like to avoid buying new software.

Any suggestions regarding saving scanned images? Can I work around the problem?
