ESPN-like Transitions for VS10+?

Post by blplhp »

Is there a good site where one can download ESPN-like transitions for VS10+? I went to the Burger site and the only transition that appealed to me that had an ESPN look to it was the one called Transition Spiral. Are there any others that anyone else knows about?

Are there any of the transitions that come with VS10+ that any of you like that gives an ESPN look. Some of VS10+'s Flying or Rotating Box transitions are OK, but they change size and get smaller throughout the transition. I'd like to have a transition like this (the rotating, spinning part), but where the A image stays about the same size as it transitions into the B image.

I guess what I'm looking for are transitions that spin, or rotate on a vertical pivot or even at a 45 degree angle, or even ones that start at horizontal spinning on a vertical axis and change to 45 degrees before the transition ends. I realize that ESPN uses high-tech super professional equipment and software (both 2D and 3D), so I'm looking for anything that provides a similar look.

As you can tell, I'm in the middle of doing a sports highlight DVD and I want some cool looking transitions that make it look similar to an ESPN highlight reel. :) :)

Thanks.
Cheers,

Bryan P.

I have read a few times on this forum about Canopus. Apparently they have good stuff. (I also noticed you didn't say FREE  )

Thanks, Jeff!!!

At this point, I'll pay a few pennies for some good transitions, but free is always good. 8)

I have the Canopus FX package, and it does contain probably about 3 transitions which match your description. So that may not be a cost effective way of doing things. But there are lots of other nifty TV-like transitions as well in the package.

If you do indeed buy it, it doesn't seem to come with the plug-in to get the effects to work with VS, though it does automatically install on Adobe Premiere Pro. But get in touch with me via my email button below, and I will send you the plug-in.

There is also another set of really very impressive transitions called Adorage which you can take a look at on www.proDAD.de As you will see, there are around 9 separate sets, and they are each more expensive than Canopus. I would dearly love to buy them all, but have contented myself with just two. If you are interested in these, read the small print: I think only the last two sets come with the general control program, which you have to buy separately if you buy the earlier sets!

Thanks, Ken.

I checked out the Canopus site that Jeff linked in his first repsonse. The site has a gallery where you can literally sample all 553 transitions. I know, because I did sample most of them. Like you mentioned, there are only a few that I liked for a sports themed DVD. So you are probably right, its not going to be worth it to buy it. I also found out when placing calls to three local dealers that rep the product, that Video FX Transitions is no longer being supported. Its been out since 2004. Not sure if something new is coming out to replace it. It's interesting that you say that your copy of the program did not have the plug-in for VS, because their website says it is plug-in compatible for MSP and VS.

I will try the Adorage package and see if they have anything I can use. Is the Adorage package compatible with VS? Does it plug-in from within VS?
Cheers,

Bryan P.

Re Canopus -- I know they say it is plug-in compatible with Ulead products, but the package does not appear to any longer come with the relevant plug-in. I have supplied it to about 10 members of this Forum so far...

Re Adorage -- yes, it comes plug-in ready and operates from within VS. Like Canopus, once installed, in the Transitions drop down menu, both CanopusFX and Adorage appear as new categories. There is only one icon in them. You drag that like any other transition into the timeline, but then you select Customise. The plug-in then activates the main Canopus or Adorage programs which actually contain all the transitions. You then pick the one you want, click OK and that is what then appears in VS.

. Well, experience always speaks louder than advertising. I believe you!!! :D

That sounds ideal. I will definitely check into Adorage today and see if it offers what I need. By chance, do any of the transitions in the two sets you have match the kind of action sports transitions I am looking for? If so, how many? And if not, which two sets do you have, as I may not buy those sets and should look at the other 7 sets. :)

I have Volume 9. which is mainly concerned with light/particle effects. It does not contain a single transition which meets your description.

Nor does Vol. 2 in the fantasy/cartoon series, which I also have. As its name implies, the effects are cartoon-like. with lots of fluffy animals. I got it to do some family/kids DVDs. I am not even sure that this particular series is even available anymore.
