convert chapters to titles

Post by walkietv »

hello, hello!
I've got a small but essential problem - how to convert chapters into titles?
I've received from a television a DVD recording of me playing the violin in a concert:) but it's made pretty different from how I usually do with Ulead studio 10.

Concert DVD's i handled so far have been simple structured, I mean if I had a concert in 3 movements, the DVD had 3 independent titles, so that you could watch them easily by pressing the 1, 2,3 etc nr buttons on remote control for DVD player, so then easy to select.
Well, now this DVD has only 2 big titles, while I'm playing 4 separated movements and the problem is - 1st title contains first two movements, 2nd the other 2 ones, while the movements themselves are separated between (1-2, 3-4) in continuous-playing chapters. (I should mention there are other pieces before me in first title, and after me in the 2nd title, but these are simple to remove). the thing is "Create disc" has only the option "Add chapters" but not "ad titles". It just sees the DVD like a "whole" and I don't know how to cut it into separate titles. So basicly, what I want is to transform chapter(=movements) into titles. How could I do that?

I've got very good replies before here and thank you again! I would kindly ask for a a little help here too.

I would use Insert DVD/DVD-VR to import the two existing titles into VS.

Then with Title 1 in the timeline, I would create project A, save it then save it as Project B as well.

With project B being the open project, I would then find the break after the first movement, and use the scissors icon to cut the video at that point. I would then delete the first half and go to Share > Create Video File > DVD. That will then produce a DVD-compliant mpeg-2 of Movement 2.

Then close that project and reopen Project A. Make the cut and delete the second half. Proceed as above and you will have a DVD-compliant mpeg-2 of the first Movement.

Do the same for the second title you currently have.

Then when you have 4 separate mpeg-2s, close the last project, and with an empty timeline, go to Share > Create Disc. The burning module will open. Insert the 4 mpeg-2s and you will now have 4 separate titles in your menu. Add chapters if you want.

Make sure that 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the Options icon in the bottom left of the burning screen.

Then burn. Good luck!

First sorry I answer so late. Then - thank you, thank you, thank you!! Works perfect! Just have one final question about the final burning of the mpeg files.

The mpeg properties are the following: Video - Variable bit rate (max 4505 kbps)
Audio: Dolby digital 48KHz and 256 kbps

the question is: what should I set in conversion settings, as I don't want to change them in any way and I have ticked the "do not convert compliant ...etc". When I enter the settings menu it prompts me by default with video- "variable (max 7000)" and audio DDA 256 kbps . Also with "90" at quality/speed.
As I would like to make the DVD without conversion and obtain the best result possible, could you tell me please what should I set in: Video data rate (can i set 9000 kbps or maybe the 4500?), should I tick "two-pass encode"(i presume not), audio bitrate (leave to 256 or higher) and most important - can I set the quality to 100 %?

I've realized the nonsense of my previous post  that is no longer a problem.

What is a problem: The resulting separate mpgs have bad audio , i mean they have a sort of "cracks/clikcs" very often (about every 2 seconds). I checked the 2 original imported titles and they are fine so the problem is when I do the cuts and save the wished parts. When saving I chose "same as project settings" What is wrong? Please, please help me!
Thank you so much for the help so far!

Hi walkietv, I have had this problem with others on the forum. Black Lab I think found the answer, to change your audio setting to LPCM.

hope this helps.

thanks alanball for replying!

Well, i tried modifying the audio to Mpeg audio,LPCM or whatever but didn't help in the sound of the new-cut mpegs. The thing i didn't mention before is that:

When I import the whole 1st title, in Ulead windows plays well. But after I cut it, the playback sound in the program gets sooo "rrrr" and "grgr" before i save them new-cut. And, as I said, if i save the new mpegs the sound is still bad.

What could this mean?

solved!
