I don't have the original source files for a project I'm working on, so I'm forced to do the re-editing with the mpeg-2 files from the DVD.
I notice two things when I try to edit the mpeg-2 file:
- editing is kind of slow
- when i render there is a slight stutter, but its only noticable in slow camera pans
I'm using a frameserver to export / render the video, but should I use a frameserver to import also? If so, which frameserver should I use to import the video file? Or maybe there is a plugin or codec I could install to improve Ulead Media Studios' handling of mpeg-2 files?
Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First please fill in the system specs portion of your profile. It helps enormously in determining if your rig is up to the task and prevents us having to risk worsening our carpal tunnel syndrome by typing this paragraph endlessly
I sincerely doubt running an input server will help. More useful would be to use the Add File dialogs Info button to get precise MPEG audio & video stream properties for those files then set up a custom project profile to match.

I have no experience about files taken from DVD, but I think you're talking about the .VOB video files.
They should work the same way as the ones from the DVD produced by the home recorder, that get the extension .VRO
Those files are not real Mpeg2 files because normally they got some more stuff at the headers, that make then distinct from the DVD compatible Mpeg2 files you get as result of your MSP editing.
For .VRO files and using VideoStudio, "importing" the files usinf the menu import facility will turn them to editable Mpeg2 DVD compatible files abd will allow you to "work" them.
(obviously, this doesn't consider the re-rendering needs when you save your final work or to author a new DVD).
