Adstech is one of several companies which keeps its hardware/software linkage proprietary. At one stage, they used to tweak a particular version of Video Studio to work with the device. They may still do so. But none of their devices work with commercial versions of VS for capturing and the the version of VS the DX2 comes with is both an SE cut-down version and one or two versions out of date into the bargain.
So you capture (using the DVD/mpeg-2 setting) with CapWiz. Then import into VS for editing and authoring.
I'm reluctant to say the highlighted section in blue is
ALWAYS the case -- I remember when VideoStudio 9 was released, the full retail version automatically recognized the ADSTech Instant DVD 2.0 device (the device came with VS8, and the full VS9 came out-of-the-box able to capture from the unit). So, at least in the past, there were VideoStudio Full versions that automatically recognized an ADSTech capture device
