Movie + photos (+menu Qs)

Post by Bojan1983 »

I am using VS 9 and I am finishing my first project and I have few questions on which I havent found answers after quick browsing through forum (havent read all those tutorials, though...)

How to make when I insert DVD into dvd player to see options "watch movie", "pick a scene", "look at photos"...

"watch movie" should play whole movie, "pick a scene" should allow you to pick chapter, and "look at photos" should show photos (obviously  )

what is the best way to add photos?

At the "menu" screen, on top I can choose "main menu", that is, I assume, menu which will appear when you insert dvd in dvd player... but what is "untitled"... which menu is that?

Also i want to know, at the final "burn disc" screen... which format should I use? DVD-Video or DVD+VR and what difference will be if I check those three boxes under ("create dvd folders", "create disc image file", "normalize audio"

For every video file you place in the DVD Authoring module (Share|Create Disc), you get what's called a "hot spot", or a clickable link to some position in your movie. This is what I do to create the results you want: First I create a separate video file that is made up only of a 4 second black color clip and I place it first in the Authoring timeline. This will create a clickable "hot spot" in your main menu. I usually select a Text Menu for my main menu. Change the name of this hot spot to read "Play Movie", like a commercial DVD movie. When one clicks on this hot spot in your main menu, it will bypass your chapter sub-menu, and go directly to playing your main video file. The 2nd video file I place on the Authoring timeline is my main video file. This will create a 2nd hot spot on the main menu. I change its name to "Scene Selection". Back on the first page of the Authoring module, I click on the Add/Edit Chapters button and create my chapter points within this video file. This will also create a chapter sub-menu, with video thumbnails of your selected chapters. To get the "Look at Photos" selection, you will need to create a separate video file for your photos, and place it on the timeline as your 3rd video file. This again will create a 3rd hot spot on your main menu, where you can give it the name "Look at Photos".
"watch movie" should play whole movie, "pick a scene" should allow you to pick chapter, and "look at photos" should show photos (obviously )
The above suggestions will accomplish your aim.
what is the best way to add photos?
In your specific case, make a separate video file or slideshow with your photos. Create a video file from your slideshow. Create it using Frame based and a bit rate of 8000 kbps Constant. Add it as your 3rd video file in the Authoring timeline, as described above.
At the "menu" screen, on top I can choose "main menu", that is, I assume, menu which will appear when you insert dvd in dvd player... but what is "untitled"... which menu is that?
Not sure what you mean by "untitled"?

You should typically select DVD-Video. I typically don't check those three boxes, but others that do could offer you some advice as to their advantages.

Good luck with your video. :) :)

When "movie" finish it automaticly goes to "photos"... I would prefer to take me back to main menu...
How to do that?

Before you burn the DVD and while in the disc burning window look to the bottom of the window and locate an icon which looks like a little cog wheel - click on it - at the very bottom of the dialogue window which opens click to remove the tick from the box against "Auto Repeat When Disc Playback ends" - the 'Clip Playback' drop down will then become available to you - change it so that it says "Back to Menu" - click OK then burn your DVD.

30 secs is the longest time, that the background music for menus is allowed to play. To edit or change it, on the same page with the DVD menu templates, select the second tab Edit. Background music is at the top.

I didnt have time till now to try what you wrote above, and now I have a question...

If you read whole topic you ll see why this cant work for me... or there is something else I should do... dont know...

There is a 1st "hot spot", a clip of 4 seconds that i use as "show movie" (and when its finished it must continue to my 2nd "hot spot"), then there is "scene selection" where I need possibility to go the menu after every scene finishes... Same as 3rd "hot spot", my photography, when its over i want it to go the main menu...

To make it short, if I change it to "back to menu", when i click on my "show movie" button, after 4 secs gets me back to main menu... Can I someone change those settings for each clip(hot spot) individually?

You have a clip that you want to play before the menu, then you want to go back to the menu after subsequent clips play? If that is correct then that can be done. Set up your clips and menu as Bryan has pointed out. Then set the "Back to Menu" preference as BrianCee pointed out. To make your first clip play before the menu appears you have to check the Use First Clip As Introductory Video box on the first burn module window.

If you are looking to do something more sophisticated than this, VS may not be able to do it. You may want to look into DVD MovieFactory.

Sorry, maybe I didnt expain it right...

I have made what "blphlp" wrote above

Now, I want this :

When I click on "show movie" -> play my movie till the end (without continuing to photography!) and return to menu

When i select each scene -> play selected scene and then go back to menu (not continuing to next scene!)

When i select Photography -> play photography and go back to the menu...

Is it possible to make it as I want it?
