Unreadable *.avi files

Suddenly the program will not read *.avi files, either from my camcorder or from the hard drive. When I attemp to access one, I get the message, "The content of these files is unreadable." The files play perfectly with other programs. I tried to contact tech support several times but have gotten no response. Any ideas?
