Welcome to the forums,
Where does your source files come from, a digital still camera, internet download, camcorder or some other source? MOV is a carrier just like AVI. They carry video formats that use various codecs (COmpresionDEcompression). With a video clip in the timeline, right-click, select properties and post them back here please.
Also it might help to know what program you are using..

For VS8 Ulead issued a patch for Kodak MOV files. A link to the patch can be found in our Product Tutorials section. Click HERE to go to the link and instructions. It reportedly works with the later versions too.
If it is a Kodak camera, then what has worked for me, is installing the Camera Connection Software portion of the Easyshare program. This installed the MJPEG codec, which my editing programs (VS10+) can use. I have had no problems with the MOV files created with my camera.
Could you please post the video clip properties? That way we will have some idea of how to proceed.

No, what I'm looking for is the Video Clip Properties. To see them, put the video clip in the timeline. Then right-click on the video clip. In the right-click menu, choose Properties. The dialog window that pops up will be the Video Properties. The Properties Dialog looks like this: Click on image to enlarge

You don't need to post a screenshot like that, but type in the information that is displayed in that window...

I took a snapshot with my digital camera and pasted it to my computer screen..
Just kidding...
I use a screen capturing program, There are tons of them, Ulead's programs like PhotoImpact have this capabilty. You can also just use WinXPs CTL+Printscreen. Then open your favorite image editor, click Edit>Paste.
Once you have it captured, and ready, then upload it to one of the free hosting sites. Several of us use Imageshack for posting screenshots here. It even provides the correct link syntax for posting on Web Boards..

Ok I just done some tests on the couple of MOV (kodak MJPEG) files I have.
In Project Mode the clips barely play. They are very jerky. This is common for some files, especially highley compressed files such as MPEG-4.
What is your goal for the videos? Are you wanting to put them on DVDs? If so they will need to be converted, which means a loss in quality. They will need to be converted to MPEG-2, which is a less compressed format then MPEG-4. Now given that, where is the pixel data going to come from. Since MPEG-2 is less compressed, it must come up with some data in the video that is not there.
You can try using a free video conversion utility called SUPER(<--Click on the word) to convert it from MPEG-4 to MPEG-2. Then try to edit it. Keep any editing down to a minimum. Also make sure your project and video properties match, through-out the process, have Smart Render enabled.
