PicShow4 - Trial downloaded, installed, won't open...

Post by CindeScooter »

Try 1. I downloaded (from FTP site 1) and installed the Trial version of CD & DVD PictureShow4. I could not open it from the desktop shortcut, Start Menu, nor Windows Explorer program file. (Although I¡¦m not ready to record, I could open the Disk Image Recorder ¡V Ulead Copy. Now)

Try 2. Instead of a complete uninstall, I chose the repair option when I selected PS4 in Control Panel - Add/Delete. After repair I was still unable to open PS4, but was still able to open Disk Image Recorder.

Try 3. This time I did a complete uninstall, deleted the download file and chose to re-download from FTP Site 2. I closed down Internet Explorer, mail program, Anti-virus program and did a new install. I¡¦m still unable to open PS4, but am able to open Disk Image Recorder.

I ordered a custom computer a month ago (A-open) (2 DVD burners/w light scribe, 1GB ram, 150 GB internal h/d 150 GB removable h/d.) Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 installed at factory. Sad Story- Damaged on arrival, sent back to factory, will be a couple more weeks before replacement arrives. Roxio was in original box, so I did not return it to factory with damaged tower. I installed it on current computer, and find that I¡¦m not happy with the slide show software, so I want to try a few more slideshow softwares before purchasing another one.

Could there be a possible conflict with Roxio and PictureShow 4?

System Properties Form completed in profile.

Thanks for any advice you can send my way.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Yes, it's possible. Some Roxio products will install buggy codec packs to cause the conflict.

Check the Windows Event Log for error messages:

START | RUN dialog box
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
and press enter.
Now check the following two folders
Application
System

You will find a red circle with a white cross inside. Double click to open it and there you will find a link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
This link also contains some hidden code appertaining to your error.
Double click and you will then be given more detailed information and possible cures.

Trial PS4, still no luck opening...

Post by CindeScooter »

H.T., thank you for your reply. Steve J., I was able to follow your directions. Although they didn¡¦t have the red dot x, I did find RoxSniffer9 and RoxLiveShare9 in the Application Event Viewer. Properties noted something about registry and dll and /AUXSOURCE= flag. But being such a novice I didn't know what to do with the information. I did uninstall Roxio by add/remove program. Then I did a search for Rox on hard drive and deleted everything I found there. Then in the Help/Support Center under System Config. Utility - Services Tab I unchecked Roxio UPnP Renderer 9, Roxio Upnp Server 9, and LiveShare P2P Server 9. Start up prefetch. I even deleted all my cookies. I did an uninstall for PS4 from the add/remove program. Then installed it again and PS4 still won¡¦t start.

I'm not ready to give up. I won¡¦t be keeping my current computer since I¡¦m giving it to my daughter who has no interest in burning CD/DVD. I do want to get a jump start on knowing what to do with the new computer which will be here in about a week. It¡¦s A-open and I don¡¦t know the specifics except 1 GB Ram; 150 GB internal hd; 150 GB removable drive which has a key and is housed in the slot below the two DVD burners and above the floppy drive. It has been cloned at the factory with the same setup (including Roxio) as the internal h/d. I won¡¦t be able to get tech support from the factory.

Perhaps this is not the correct forum for the following question. If not, I apologize. Can you direct me to a web site that can explain how to deal with a removable hard drive? I've Googled but haven't been able to find a good tutorial, maybe because I don¡¦t know what to ask Google to find.

Specifically, I'm wondering if I might be able to reformat the removable one to completely remove Roxio and reinstall Windows then use that one for PS4 without conflict. I¡¦m wondering about Windows being on the 2 drives and how I would be able to start up from either the C: hard drive or choose to boot up from the removable hard drive. Is that possible? I am so confused!

I can explain a removable hard drive to you as I use them and have 3 installed right now.

They are standard internal hard drives. Instead of being connected directly to the ide slot with the ide cable, the drive is mounted inside a small case. This case slides in and out of a slot. The back of that case is connected to the ide slot with the ide cable. They key is to lock it into place to stop it being pulled out inadvertantly whilst the computer is turned on.

You should shut the computer down and then unlock it, pull the hard drive carrier out and then you can slide another one in. Its a quick way of swapping one hard drive for another and saves you the bother of taking the lid or side panels off your computer to gain access to the hard drive.

Think of it like an extension cable.
