CD/DVD Authoring is missing VS9 functionality

Post by enewhook »

After upgrading from VS6 to VS9 a year ago, many of my complaints with VS6 faded. Unfortunately, VS9 still had some glitches when autoring DVDs. I upgraded to VS10Plus to increase my capabilities and get a more solid final product only to find that things like hidden chapters and the ability to choose a button image other than the first clip image was no longer available to me. I would expect that VS10's capabilities would be everything that VS9 had plus more. I've searched everywhere for a solution but it seems I may have to go back to VS9 for my authoring needs. This shouldn't be.

Indeed you are right - VS10 can do all that V9 did and much more - to hide a chapter thumbnail just right click on it while editing the menu page and choose "Hide Object" - - in order to choose a different image for your thumbnail just double click on the thumbnail and in the dialogue window choose a new image.

CD/DVD Authoring is missing VS9 functionality

Hi Brian. I think that part of my problem is that some of the features are accessed differently and also not fully understanding the functionality I have in VS10.

I have one video which has chapter tags in it. I enter the "Share" / "Create Disk" option and from the next screen choose "Add/Edit Chapter" to confirm my chapter points. I OK that screen and see only my first clip showing on my storyboard. I then choose "Next" and procede to customize my menu with layout and background options. I would like to have my three chapters show up on this main menu but I don't think that can be done. It seems I have to create a second menu, the "Chapter Menu" in order to access the chapters which were created within my main edit session. Though I can hide these chapters within the chapter menu, I can't seem to change the thumbnails for them.

Is there a way I can avoid using the chapter menu without adding my individual clips individually within the authoring module and is there a way of changing the thumbnails for the chapters created in VS10, not the autoring module?

As another option, if I could change the thumbnails for the chapter menu, it may be workable on its own if I could just hide the main menu. I fail to understand the reasoning of setting the chapters in a video which working on the timeline in VS10 and then moving on to "Create Disk" only to have to create one option on the Main Menu which simply says "View Chapters". I would much rather have the menu open up initially showing the three chapters which I have created in the productionof the video.

I think VS10 can do "most" of what VS9 can do (in terms of DVD Authoring). The one difference I can see is that the Hidden Chapter in VS9 is not the same as the Hide Object in VS10.

VS9's Hidden Chapter is to prevent that chapter from playing back during "normal" dvd playback (no usage of remote control buttons during playback).

VS10's Hide Object is used to make a button "hidden" on the menu, but that chapter is supposed to play during playback of the dvd.

The following info is most likely in the link that Steve provided:

To get rid of the Title Menu, hit the EDIT tab and use the Advanced Settings (remove the checkmark next to Add Title Menu).

To change the thumbnail, double-click the thumbnail on the menu, and a popup window will allow you to select a different frame.
