Hi All,
I am a new VS user (purchase 10 plus, very happy with it!)
When I try to record using a microphone I get the the following error when I click "Record Voice"
Device Error: Cannot open wave-in device
The microphone I am using is a Logitech USB. It works fine with other applications and the Windows controls recognize the device and the available hardware test passes.
My system runs Windows XP SP 2. It has 2 GB of memory and 140GB of free space. Of course, the interface for the microphone is USB (which I am now sure might be an issue....)
All suggestions are welcome.
Jim

Hi Jim
I'm a newbie too and found exactly the same problem. I even bought a new microphone with no good result!!
Looking round this great support site I found a post by Mike Warren on 30 November 2006 that sounded familiar. Ken Berry suggested using a separate audio editing program and then importing the audio clip to the project.
I downloaded Audacity (It's free) and it works and the program offers a lot of potential for other things.
Good luck

For what it's worth, I just tried recording to voice using VS10+, and got the same error about the wave-in device. Before that, though, I had received a message to adjust the MIC volume in the XP sound control.
So after I got the error msg, I went to the XP sound control, and just jiggled the slide control (which was nearly at the top anyway). Then I went back to VS10+, and pressed the Record Voice button, and this time it worked! Don't really know what I did. And the quality was quite good I have to say, especially since I only use an el cheapo headset which I bought for Skype!
But even so, I think I will stick to my earlier advice about using a third party audio editor (I use the one in the Nero suite which is called Wave Editor).
