ASUS DVD burner not recognized

Post by szvacek »

I am using MS Pro v8 sp1 and recently installed an ASUS DRW-1608P3S DVD burner. Create a small test file in mpg format and tried to use the DVD Movie Factory program to burn the file. The program doesn't recognize the DVD burner. States there no DVD burner present. My basic Windows program does not see it either.

I had a trial version of NERO installed and it saw it, but the software stop working recently.

Since Ulead MSP is not the only program that does not see your DVD burner, I would suggest going to the manufacturer's website, Asus International, select where in this big marble called earth, you live, then navigate to the support, and look for updated firmware drivers.

This is probably the wrong language for you, but here is the link to the English (North America) updates..http://support.asus.com/download/downlo ... uage=en-us

Well I checked but they use JavaScript, so the exact page link doesn't display. But on that page just select the product, model etc., and it will take you to the page to download the current firmware.

Windows does not natively recognise a dvd burner as a dvd burner if you insert a blank dvd. It should show the burner as being installed though, so you should see it in my computer.

I'd also suspect nero, as my video editing pc does not work well with nero installed. It hogged my burners and I had the same trouble with workshop not seeing them.

You're absolutely right, Nero's InCD feature does hog the drives. The good thing is that one can install Nero without this feature. Definitely better than Roxio.

Although InCD does seem to give most people problems, mine were without it installed.

I now use Deepburner for my data burning.

I have both Nero and Roxio blacklisted on all my computers. Most of my non-video burning is done with either DeepBurning or, more frequently, Ulead Disc Creator. For video burning, I use DVD Workshop 2.
