If I record DV on a nice 3-chip camera (GL2 for example) and then use a $150 DV camcorder for the capture to my PC will I lose any quality in the picture? I want to save head-wear on the expensive camera.
I know in the digital age it's all 1s and Zeros, but I thought I would ask.
My instinct is that there should be no difference, but I thought I would ask...

Using a cheap camera to capture, any quality difference?

I'd also agree that it's a good way to save wear-and-tear on your expensive camcorder. One issue you might have is if you plan to record in LP mode -- sometimes "other" camcorders have problems playing external LP tapes, so you end up having to use the original camcorder that made the LP recording (or maybe another model camcorder from the same company).

George's point is a good one, and a reason for never ever recording in LP. What if your GL2 breaks down and you replace it with the latest version........ and can't ever again see any of the recordings you've made over the years.
Otherwise, i do hat you plan. Film with XM2 (GL2) and then capture with my older canon mv10.
