Tell us how you bought the program. Did you first use the try before you buy TBYB version? Or a full boxed or downloaded version?
Did you apply any of the patches before trying the Vista patch? I ask because at least a couple of users had a full version of VS10 installed, then by mistake downloaded an update patch which was meant for theTBYB version, and after applying this, they got a msg similar to the one you got. The patch they downloaded actually had TBYB in the name, whereas the one they should have downloaded looked identical except without the TBYB.
I am not sure what they had to do to get around this, but think they had to completely uninstall then reinstall VS10 then download the correct patch.

re: can't run Video Studio with Vista
I had a similar problem with some trial software I was trying to run in Vista and found that it would run if I "ran as administrator". I think I right clicked on the file or icon to select that option. I had the same error message, so I'm guessing that might solve your problem. Did you say you were running a trial or a purchased copy? Maybe the Vista update pack will take care of the problem.
Video Studio problem
By the way, once you can run the program, you might have better luck installing the vista update. It may need to be run before the update sees that it is installed. (Just a guess based on other software that requires you run once before update.)
