Replicating Transitions, Making Default Set Changes, VS8

Post by frank1492 »

Is there is an easy way to replicate a transition for all clips, rather than having to drag the same transition multiple times? Also when inserting images, is there a way to change, wholesale, the default setting of 3 seconds? Using VS8!
Help much appreciated on these two items! Thanks.

Um... File > Preference > General > Default Transition Effect... Note that this has to be set before you actually drag any video into the timeline. But once the default transition is set, when you drag files into the timeline, the default transition is automatically inserted.

As for the time of the transition, File > Preferences > Edit > Default Transition Effect duration...

Thank you Ken. I sometimes feel as though people must think I am lazy, but I really do try pretty hard to figure things out before I post. It's just that looking in certain places sometimes just nevers occur to me.
I haven't sat down at VS yet to try your suggestions, but I wonder if you misunderstood something I wrote. I was looking for a way to change, wholesale, the length of time that a still image is displayed, as I have a whole bunch of them that lap dissolve into each other. The default duration of display is 3 secs which I want to change to 5 all at once.
No need to reply right away, I'll probably find the answer when I examine all the defaults under "preferences."
Thanks again so much for your help. If you disappeared people like
me would be in biiiiiiggggggg trouble!

Frank,

There is a setting in the Preferences for setting the default duration of images, clips, and transistions. However this will not affect any clips/images already on the timeline. To change those highlight all the color clips or images that you want to change. Then go to Clip Menu and the first option is to Change Image/Color Duration. This only applies to the image and color clips, the duration of transitions can not be changed this way..

To select ALL THE IMAGES first click CTRL,A together which will highlight all the images then as Ron said GOTO clipmenu.............

I have found a quick way to change the length of the transition (sort of), click on the first one then toggle between the arrow and delete keys (do not wait for the screen to catch up between each delete) then change the default duration as Ken said File>Preferences.......... then double click on your transition of choice (again do not wait for the transition to go to is place before clicking the next as the PC will catch up) when you double click on a library item (transition, image, clip ) it always goes to first open slot. Hope this makes sense/helps.
