Hi Kevin,
you don't have to have the latest and greatest pc by any means to make good use of Video Studio. Furthermore, there are probably many users with great machines but little aptitude for making videos! (I might include myslef in that number, but my pc is not that great....) You could probably make do with a simple cpu and motherboard upgrade, but if you feel like you want to treat yourself to a bit more than that, there's no harm in that either - especially if it helps to induce you to be more creative.
A faster pc will just get some aspects of the job done more quickly - but the finished image quality of the project will be exactly the same as one done on a slower machine - so don't get carried away! I'd always prefer to have a good full sized tower case, and you seem interested in removable drive bays.
Good luck and happy editing - but beware, video editing is a very effective thief of time!

Oh man do I so know that!!!! And by the time I have upgraded fully, so will the programmes requiring even higher spec! But onwards and upwards!
