Sounds like it addresses a lot of the things people have been looking for - chroma keying, ripple editing, pan and zoom video, reshape video, motion menus, stereo duplication.

Just hope the audio stays in sync!

Will it have text menus

Post by ffnogoodnik »

Is there any chance it will have text menus instead of the picture type menus Video Studio has now. If not text at least give us the ability to move the pictures around so you can see the background.

And can they PLEASE fix the bugs that they had in 8 so they are not in 9? ;)

Do you mean you're making a DVD - those menus? If not, then what are you talking about? I'd also like to be able to play around with those menus though. I'd like to be able to move the text to where I want it!

I used VS 7 first and I liked how they had the "Save Trimmed Video" and "Save as Still Image" as buttons to the left. In VS8 you have to click in a menu. Just annoyin' to me - I'd rather have the buttons out in the open since it's used so much.

Yes, the menus on the DVD. I would like to have the option of having a list of items that are on the DVD without having a picture on the menu. A lot of DVD's have them. I have noticed it most on DVDs for TV shows where the title of each episode is the "button" that sends you to the child menu that has the options for that particular episode.

Two notable things not mentioned, though: AC-3 and MPEG4.

Okay, this may show my nativity (however you spell it) but what does AC-3 and MPEG4 support do? Why is it important? I've burned DVD's and I've never had a problem with sound. Everything sounds just fine to me.

ffnogoodnik -

I like your ideas for the menus. A picture is not always needed!

subtitles

Does VideoStudio 9 create DVD formatted subtitles? If so, can I import a formatted subtitle file into VideoStudio 9? If so, what format to use, and does it follow other formats? I own MovieFactory 3 and love it, but it too lacks this.

Thank you.

One may say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - you may not need AC-3. This is an audio compression format, made and licenced by Dolby. The net effect is that the audio track on the DVD is reduced to about one eighth its original size, while retaining quality. This means you can get a bit more video on each disc. Most commercial DVDs use AC-3, as do newer DVD-based camcorders.
Mpeg-4 is another video compression format - if you are interested in viewing movies on computer, or transmiiting them via the web, and achieving small file size, this may be for you.

I don't know what's going to be in version 9, but here's the deal: Video Studio is a video editing program with some DVD authoring ability thrown in.

Video editing is all the stuff that the director/editor do after the film is shot, before it goes to the theater.

DVD Authoring (i.e. DVD Workshop) is done when you are transfering the already-made movie to DVD format.

VideoStudio, as its name, is a video editing tool.

For edit DVD menu freely, you should try the new DVD MovieFactory 4 or DVD WorkShop/DVD WorkShop Express.

Hi,

VideoStudio should have the same features for encoding as the new
released MovieFactory 4. 2 pass Vbr etc.
Some really nice additional features, especially being able to import a
complete dvd mpeg2 file without splitting it up into chapers.

Folks:

Does anyone know what Ulead's upgrade policies are like? I just bought UVS8 about 2 months ago, and am not using the burning capabilities because of the all-too-well documented AV sync problems. Assuming that the sync problems are fixed in VS9, will I have to pay to get my sync problem fixed (since that's the only reason I would consider upgrading to 9)?

Curious,
