Me video is cropped when I play it on the TV, what's wrong?
I recently created a DVD from my holiday videos and the text I entered in the video was cropped both at the top and bottom of the screen. Why does this happen? IS there a way I can make this not happen? When i create the menu I can see the safe box but when editing my video this safe box doesn't appear
. Can i create a video that won't be cropped?
Thank You

That "safe area rectangle" does not show for me if I have it turned off in File / Preferences. Are you saying it shows for you regardless of the setting in File / Preferences?Ken Berry wrote:The curious thing, though, is that when adding titles, the safe area box automatically shows on the screen -- I didn't think that had anything to do with a setting in File > Preferences (which I leave off in any case).
It's called overscan and it's normal. TVs are adjusted for overscan to compensate for analog variations. A newer, better-adjusted TV will usually have less overscan than an older TV.Why does this happen?
You can try adjusting your TV (horizontal & vertical size, and horizontal & vertical position). However, you may not have control over all of the TVs that this DVD is shown on in the future...IS there a way I can make this not happen?
If there's something really important in the image that you don't want cut-off, you can zoom-out the video to make it smaller... to fit inside the safe area.
In the future, keep overscan in mind when you shoot the video. (And, when you add titles during editing).

I see, thanks for the help gentlemen. Too bad iI didn't know that before.... Now now I already created a movie with the tittles over the safebox area. Is there a way I can reduce the size of the movie so that I can fit it on the screen of my TV? In other forums people told me to use the effect tranform in Nero Vision but I don't have that software.
Thanks

No. 640x480 is not allowed by the DVD standard, so Video Studio will re-code it back to 720x576 for the PAL DVD standard. If i create create a new movie with this one, but with a 640X480 resolution will it then fit on my TV screen?

What version of VideoStudio do you have, and do you have all the "original" videos?
If you have the option to "distort" the video, you can scale it down (top/bottom and left/right) to fit inside the "safe" area.
You just want to avoid multiple re-rendering of the same video -- so if you have the 1st generation videos, that would help retain quality. You can even try starting a new project, insert the original PROJECT FILE (*.VSP), and scale it down...

The basic idea is to put your video onto the timeline (Either Import from DVD, or use an "edited" version of the video if you have one already on your hard drive -- use the "least compressed" version), and then hit the "ATTRIBUTE" tab, then the Distort Clip option -- then on your preview window you should see some yellow handles you can click-drag to scale your video. Or put your video on the Overlay track and adjust the yellow handles. After adjusting/scaling your video, rt-click inside the picture and select Keep Aspect ratio.savitu wrote:I use Videostudio 10, unfortunately I don't have the original videos, my HD ran out os space so I had to delete some stuff. How do I rescale the video?

George

If the title in question is on a colored background clip, simply make the default background that same color (File > Preferences > Background Color) and nobody will know the difference.
