audio in imported video, yes - but slideshow w/mp3, nope ?

I made a dvd with imported dvd videos and a slideshow with an mp3 background. The audio to the videos play just fine. But when I play the slideshow, there is no audio unless I switch my dvd player to PCM audio settings. I am trying to make sure the dvd I made plays fine on ALL players. How can I make the audio for the slideshow play just like the audio for the imported videos, without having people to switch their audio settings each time?
