Need Help with Error message - Video Editor won't work

Post by Fire3502 »

:?

I have been using Media Studio Pro 7 for 1-2 years. This past weekend I needed more space on a drive. Therefore I moved some .avi files to an external hard drive. I also deleted a version of Pinnacle Studio 8. And who knows what else.

I can run auditor editor, capture and everything else. However, I can no longer run Video Editor. I get the following message:

"VEDITOR.EXE HAS GENERATED ERROR AND WILL BE CLOSED BY WINDOWS

YOU WILL NEED TO RESTART WINDOWS

AN ERROR LOG IS BEING CRETED"

The error message comes up immediately after initialization at 100% and prior to the Production Library Window showing.

1) I cannot find any error log.

2) I have reloaded the program at least 2x

3) I have installed Service Pack 2, and updated Patches

4) I reinstalled Studio 8 and all of it's Patches

I still get the error

I was having a similar problem after doing a non-destructive (ha!) restore to my system. VS8 would load, then get error message and shut down.
My problem was within the registry and there were no values set.

I deleted all Ulead files (it wasn't showing up in add/remove programs)
restarted pc, ran regedit and removed all Ulead folders under Local Machine/Software/Ulead Systems and Current User/Software/Ulead and Ulead Systems. Restarted the pc and reinstalled VS8 and all is working fine.

Another cautionary tale. I run VS8 and MyDVD. Recently I did a cleanup (with Advanced System Optimiser) - collect and delete all trash files. Fine. Then, when moving to Capture mode in VS8, a dialogue box appeared - "Installing MyDVD..." - eventually it could not find the file it was looking for and I was able to cancel the process - VS8 capture could then proceed. This happening every time got a bit boring so uninstalled MyDVD. Go to reinstall it (downloaded version, saved original files on CD) - ****, lost the serial number! No option but to buy the updated version (which is very nice by the way..)
The penny dropped when I did the same procedure a while later and it happened again. Fortunately this time I had not emptied the recycle bin, and by restoring some obscure temp file MyDVD was happy again.
Moral: be careful what you delete, and run stuff before you empty the bin!
