moving a video clip on timeline

Post by guffy »

To anyone who can help I have VideoStudio 7.0. Have not been using it for long. Basically have started making a project whereby I have created a slideshow at the start with various titles and some pictures/photo's playing to music. I now want to add my video clips to start playing after my slideshow however when I pull it down to the timeline it just wants to go to the start and so starts playing alongside my slideshow. I am trying to move it to start after this but struggling. Probably an easy fix hopefully for any experienced users. Please Help!

Hi Guffy,

I have VS10+, not VS7, but if its similar, my suggestion should work.

When I add clips to my timeline, I usually do it from the Library and I usually have my timeline set to the Storyboard mode (it makes it easier to visualize the workflow when adding clips). I just click on the clip in the Library and drag it down to the timeline and drop the clip in the first empty clip placeholder on the timeline, which in your case, would be the first available blank clip placeholder after your last photo clip.

Does this method not work for you?
Cheers,

Bryan P.

guffy - sounds like you have your still images in the overlay track - there is no reason why you should not put them in the top track.

None of the versions of VideoStudio allow you to have blank spaces in the top track - if you want to have your pictures in the overlay track then you need to insert a plain colour block into the top track (which will be covered by your stills) and extend it for the full duration of the slide show so that when you insert your video it buts up against the colour block.

I would probably be following a totally different workflow. First I would assemble my slideshow, as you have done. But then I would convert that slideshow into a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create File > DVD). For the properties, I would (depending on how much video you intend to burn to DVD) use a high bitrate (8000 kbps) and CBR. I would also use Frame Based, though you could also (if your other videos are already this) Lower Field First.

Then I would close that project, and edit my video, then convert that to a separate mpeg-2.

The I would close that project and, with an empty timeline, go to Share > Create Disc. In the burning window which appears, I would then insert the slideshow mpeg-2 and the video mpeg-2. Make sure 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the little cogwheel Options icon. Build your menu and burn.

Thanks to the 3 who replied, realise when i have dropped my titles and slides down i have put them in the overlay track. Rather than me start my project all over again your fix works brilliant Brian for now so many thanks. And will hopefully be abel to do my next one right from the start.

cheers
