Good Morning Everyone,
When you want to capture a video clip is there a way to change the
default settings of the program so that the video clip length is changed?
I believe that the default is 3 minutes. I would like to change that to 10 minutes.
Is this possible?

???? - when you capture a video clip it can be as long as you like - I regularly capture a full hour at a time. I do not know of any time based default for capturing.
In the information panel above the right hand end of the timeline is a box labelled 'Duration' - as long as that is all zeros then there is no capture length restriction - but if you do want to limit your capture to 10 minutes then set that box to 10 minutes before you start capture.
Perhaps if you told us a bit more about what you are capturing and from what source and with what settings we may be able to help you further.

Hi Brian!
When you capture from a DVD the next screen you see is the Chapter Selection, which would
allow you to pick, which one or all chapters to edit.
Is there a way from inside the program to change this default so that ALL chapters are the
same length? Right now they default to about 3 minutes. Can this be changed to say ten minutes. This would greatly speed up my editing time of DVD's written from TV programs.
Is this possible?
Good hearing from you again!

AH - are you recording a TV show direct to a DVD and then transferring it to your PC ??, It sounds to me as though your DVD recorder is the culprit - it is the device with the 3 minute chapter setting - if I set my DVD recorder on auto chapter is inserts a chapter point every 5 minutes regardless of whats happening on screen.
If your DVD recorder is set to 3 minutes then you cannot change it within VideoStudio as it is your DVD which is causing the problem - have you tried playing back the DVD direct to your TV - does it then have chapters 3 minutes long ?? - if so then that is the only option available to VideoStudio.
You may want to remove the auto chapter option using your DVD recorder menu and see what happens next time.

Brian Cee,
You may be very well right here.
My main reason for doing this? In the USA most TV commercials are somewhere between 5 to 8 minutes after the program starts. You can readily see that if a chapter length were at 10 minutes, your chances of hitting a break, where you would need to make a cut, are very small. In other words, the commercials could be somewhere in the middle of the 10 minute segment rather that at its beginning or end. Which is sometimes are to do.
I will keep the Forum Posted here about progress because others may have this very same problem. As is, I couuld find no adjustments from inside VS10 to change this default.
Thanks for your reply,
Bill
