MSP8 SP1 (8.10.0039.0) was working fine for some time now. Captured DV video with Ulead Capture modual in same format and settings as intended output. Built 30 min long project of video and still photos mixed with music track and simple titles. Project plays in instant preview (a bit jerky).
Tried to render final output before burning to Disc and half way thru my project crashes with a reference to error in the "mpegin.dll" Repeated restarts and attempts to rerender result in either same error or "failed to load mpeg encoder."
This is a very important project with many hour of work and I need it rendered.
The crash appears to happen somewhere during my mpeg video section of the project even though after the crash the file plays the rendered part fine including both stills and video. It seems to be rendering both video and stills fine up to a point.
Tried rendering in AVI just to get a complete file to preview and MSP8 still crashes. Tried rendering other section of the project - same error. Tried rendering from backup files of the project - same error. Also tried removing clips where the crash happens but the same error occurs at about 17 min into the project no matter what content is there. Uninstalled MSP8 including all registry entries and reinstalled early this morning. Still getting the same error. HELP!

One possibility is that you have a blank space in the video, maybe even just one frame. Ajm not at my video computer, so I can't remember the exact terminology, but if you click on Search, there is a menu item that is for detecting blank spaces.
BTW, you would get better results, quality and reliability if you "captured" your DV as an avi file, do all your editing and only then encode to mpg.

Mpegin.dll error solved!
While waiting for a response I tried some more things and found the error during the "smart check and convert." Seems that some how my mpeg file captured wrong and it needed to be converted. Converted the file using this utility and the project rendered fine. Never had this happen before and I've been using MSP since version 2.5.
