I was talking to a colleague yesterday about his 12 year old daughter who is making movies with Windows Movie Maker. I mentioned VS10+, a product I am quite happy with, but I really don't know how it stacks up against other editing software.
Does anyone know of a website (or whatever) which sets out the pros and cons of each of the packages?

Just do a search and you will find tons of them. I just used the keywords "video editors reviews". Here's one review to get you started.

My personal opinion it that reviews are often biased - sometimes unintentionaly by the reviewer perhaps doing his best and in good faith.
How we use any particular piece of software will depend upon what we have used in the past. We would tend to look for a system that we find easy to get to grips with based upon what we know already.
So if we look at something that may well be more powerful than what we are used to but don't know how to use it we may give it a thumbs down.
Equally, ask users of this forum what they consider to be the best and they will say Ulead of course!
Go to the Pinnacle Users forum and guess what they will tell you.
The only true way to establish what is best for YOU (or in this case your friend) is to download the Free Trials of the various products available and see which you feel the most comfortable with.
