I'm BRAND NEW to video editing but I've got about 20 hours of video I need to go through. Basically I've been playing around with VS10+ for about a day on Vista. My question is I would like to start the video out with something like 15 seconds which will consist of a black background, intro to music, text at the end, then fade in. However I can't seem to move the video track over to the right, say 15 seconds, so that my other features can play first.
Also I own a Sony DCR-DVD403 which sucks because I'm basically recording then finalizing my disks (MiniDVD) then importing the .vob files and then I start my editing. It doesn't seem VS10+ can import video or capture anything from the device so I finalize on the device then import the .vob. If anyone has any better recommendations please let me know. Going forward do I want to record in VR or Video? I can't seem to find an answer to that either. Thanks again!

Asyou may already have found, in the same drop down menu where you find transitions, titles, decorations etc (up in the top centre of screen, right below the Overlay and Title tabs), you will also find Colour. Click on that and you have a choice of colour mattes you can insert in the timeline. And that is the way you usually fade in from black at the beginning. Drag the black matte to the timeline before your first video, select it, then pull on the yellow handle to the right to get it to the length you want. Then insert a cross fade transition. A title can then be inserted over that.
As for inserting from your DVD camera, you don't actually import direct from the camera. You do as you have done -- insert your mini DVD in the computer DVD drive (with the disc finalised as you have done). Then you use the Insert DVD/DVD-VR command. Or have you done something else when you say you 'import the .vob'?
