HELP! no mp4 support on Studio 10 Plus Trial Version?

Post by Brian Drier »

HELP! I've just downloaded what I THOUGHT was supposed to be the Studio 10 Plus trial version. In fact, I decided to try it out specifically because it has MPEG4 support (I use a Sanyo Xacti C6). However, when I tried to "capture" video files from my hard disk, I found that nothing showed up in my album, and I got a reminder that I had 30 days left on the trial but was welcome to buy the full version. What gives? Any help would be much appreciated...

Welcome to the forums Brian,

VS 10+ does in fact support MPEG-4. I read on Sanyo's website, about the camera, and found the words "proprietary", which are generally not good. It should have came with Ulead DVD MF4 SE, which is Simple Edition, and probably tweaked by Sanyo to work with this camera. Have you tried using it to see if it recognizes the MPEG4 used by your camera?

What problems are you having with this? What errors, if any are you getting?

There was also, I understand, a patch brought out only in Japan. I am pretty sure it was Ulead Japan and not Sanyo. And I recall going to the site just to see if I could find it to make a link in case others had a problem (as you have). But the site was in Japanese and there was no obvious way I could find the link.

BTW, I don't have the Sanyo camera myself...

The patch Ken mentioned is for UVS 9, not for UVS 10.

http://www.ulead.co.jp/download/update.htm#uvs

The paid version of UVS 10 can support MPEG-4 video.

I do not have the Sanyo camera either, but I have another MPEG-4 camera by Sony.

After you transferred your MPEG-4 video from the camera to the hard disk, you can click on the Load Video button in the Gallery Panel (which you called as Album) to import the video into the gallery.

You can also right click on the UVS timeline window and select Insert Video to load the MPEG-4 video into the timeline for editing.

Hope this helps.

I recommend caution! There are variations of MPEG-4.

Try searching the forum for "Sanyo" to see if you can find any discussion about your particular camera.

If you search the forum for MP4 (or MPEG-4) you will see that some users are having trouble. DivX and Xvid (MPEG-4 variations) also seem to cause lots of trouble.

In general, the more compresed the format, the more trouble it seems to cause. I've never tried MPEG-4, but I've even sometimes had trouble with MPEG-2 (the DVD format).

For the Sanyo camera (and my Sony still camera), the MPEG-4 format is .MP4, which is OK in VS 10.

For DivX and XviD MPEG-4 video, the file extension is .AVI or .DivX. For this kind of video, if the video is DivX then I think it's OK in VS 10. If the video is XviD with MP3 audio, I would suggest to use SUPER to convert it first.

My 2 cents.

Yes, 3GP is a simplified version of MPEG-4 and is been designed to be used on 3G mobile phones.

UVS can support 3GP also.

I've just received my Xacti C40 camcorder (just an older model of Brian's C6) and I've had no problems with the raw video in 10+. I can view, listen, edit etc without any issues at all.

Hi,
my problem is the opposite : I own an old xacti C1 (1st generation...), which uses MPG4 (.mp4). I had UVS 7SE provided but it is incompatible with Vista. I've downloaded UVS10 trial, and although it is said that it does not manage MPG4, I can read my .mp4 files. So can I buy only UVS10 ? or do I need to buy UVS10+ ?

The trial version is, as far as I was aware, VS10+ and only VS10+ (i.e. not the ordinary version).

It has more features than VS10 in any case, so is a better buy.

Just be aware, though, that a new version is imminent -- though we have no release date. It appears, though, that Ulead may now be giving giving upgrade coupons to those who are buying VS10/10+.

Also be aware that there are problems in activating the Try Before You Buy version. So if you do buy VS10+, buy either the full download version (and uninstall the trial version fully before you install the new full download version) or preferably, order the boxed version of the program which comes on disc.

And further be aware that while there is a Vista patch for VS10+, some people with Vista continue to have problems. In that sense, it would definitely be better to wait for VS11/11+.
