Capture Question

Post by TyHawk »

I would like to put a Quicktime video from the internet onto a DVD. Is there any way to do this in UL VS 8 SE? The video is free so I dont believe it is protected in any way.

Thank you

I'm sure you can, provided you SE version is not crippled in the QuickTime/DVD creation department. Whether or not you would want to look at it again when on DVD only you can judge. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

Quicktime format is not supported in the DVD standard. Hence, your downloaded movie must be converted to DVD compliant mpeg2. That would entail a change of frame size and frame rate. Combined with the high compression used for web content, the majority of pixels you would see on your TV screen are in fact generated ones, not from the original clip.

Have you tried it?

I'm not sure if your SE version of Video Studio came with a Quicktime codec, but I believe the full-retail version of VS8 did.

Some of these highly compressed formats can cause trouble. If you do have trouble with the Quicktime format, you can try using a 3rd-party conversion program such as SUPER (FREE!!!) to convert the file to MPEG-2.

Like Heinz said, you will need to choose an NTSC DVD compatible framerate & resolution. With Video Studio, you can simply choose one of the DVD options, but if you use a 3rd-party utility, you may need to set-up the target properties manually. There is a chart on this page that shows the allowable DVD formats.
