No Slow Motion Video Filter in VS10+

Post by blplhp »

It would have been nice if VS10+ would have included a Slow Motion video filter with keyframes instead of having to use the Playback speed function in the control panel. Maybe for the next version? :?

Yes that would be nice.. However if you are really looking for neat features like this, why not try MSP8? It has a feature where you can control the speed of a clip, where it can start normal, slow, then speed up real fast, slow way down, etc.. adjustable by keyframes. It's pretty neat..

Yes, all that can be done on 1 clip. No need to duplicate it....

Thanks, Ron. I guess because of the price and learning curve of MSP8, I'm a little apprehensive of buying it. Right now, to get the variable linear playback speed in VS10+ to smoothly transition from 100% to my main slow motion speed and then back up to 100% again, I have to make several 6 frame cuts and reduce the playback speed incrementally down to the main slow motion playback speed of the main feature clip. Then I have to ramp back up with several more 6 frame clips. This makes the slow motion playback speed more fluid from 100% to say 35% back 100%. More work, but I guess it suffices for now. Maybe one day I'll take the plunge into MSP8 or MSP9 by then. Although I realize that MSP8 has alot more features to offer, and considering that I've gotten pretty proficient with VS10+, do you think the learning curve from VS10+ to MSP8 would be that steep? :) :)

If you are feeling real proficient and comfortable with VS10+ then the curve would not be all that steep. Don't get me wrong, it still is there. I'm still finding out things about it. What seems to be overwhelming at the start, is the UI, and ways to achieve things that in VS10+ is more or less drag-n-drop. The UI default opens with 7 audio and 7 video tracks, then the effects, Production/Library modules then in the space left the Preview and Source windows. They are stacked via tabs.

I caution you though, if you do venture back to Ulead and click on the Free Trial Download button, and proceed to install it. Then because of the strong curiosity start playing around with it, don't blame me for having to spend the money...:) If you take it in small pieces then it is easier to digest, uh mmmmm just like food..;)

What I actually did was print out the manual and read that first. Then, when I opened MSP for the first time it wasn't so intimidating, and actually made some sense... :?
