Image (PICTURE) get distorted one side only

Image (PICTURE) get distorted

Hello everyone.
I'm using VS10 and I set up the Grid to 5%, so I distort (shrink) evenly my pictures to FIT into the save VIEW of my TV screen; (dragging the yellow corners in) that means that I shrink the pictures to then next grid OUT of the line (frame); but when previewing the final project, at least 1 picture got "stretched" one side to the right out of the frame, making the picture too distorted only to one side (then right one), then I have to set "THAT" picture to FIT to screen (disable DISTORT).

Why is this happening, or it's just me that I have to check up with my ophthalmologist?

Hi

Make sure your curser changes to ¡¥two diagonal arrows¡¦. This should drag the corners keeping the image in proportion.

If the curser is ¡¥one arrow  and a square¡¦ you will distort the image.

Thanks trevor, but I know.. I'm not distorting with the "side squares or small dots" those I use them when I want to do a fancy effect (perspective). This is a weird move; you can see the picture w/o any distortion, just smaller, but when you preview the project when timeline comes to that picture the right side (NO THE CORNER) of the picture JUMP to right frame of the preview window, living the other 3 sides of the picture right where I put them. From the whole project (50-60 picures) 1 or 2 are affected, therfore those 2 picture I have to FIT to SCREEN.

Thank you anyway for responding my post 8)

Hi SanKev

This is very strange.

Are you using the top timeline for your pictures :?:
or
Are you using the overlay tracks. :?:
and
What are the properties of the images :?:

Trevor

no

no
Only happen with the top main track, overlayers I don't think ever happened. The properties most likely I used AVI or MPEG.

I think Trevor was asking for the Picture properties. Were they JPEG, PNG, TGA, GIF, etc....?

Also for those problem images on the top track did you check to see if you might have or VS has a different setting for those? Like Original size, Fit to Screen ?

Hi

Ok I think I know what¡¦s going on here.

When we insert an image to the timeline, VS attaches attributes, this info controls the way the image views in the timeline.

If we edit the image by using the distort function or pan & zoom etc we change the look of the image, the info being stored as attributes.

If we now view the image as a clip, Select the Image tab, the image looks normal. Fills the screen.

I like this image so drag it to the library, now I have a copy and can use it later.
But I have also copied the edited attributes.

I start a new project and use this image to find it does not display properly. Now i'm confused.

You cannot edit the thumbnail in the library (besides it looks ok) and each time you use it, it displays wrong.

It has to be what you have applied at an earlier time.

Load the image again from the hard drive to the library. Delete the offending thumbnail.

I hope that makes sense

And if you think that¡¦s strange try adding a filter or two.

Trevor,

This sounded promising but unfortunately has not resovled a similar problem I have encountered when inserting an image to the 1st Overlay track, modifying its shape (to fit one of the UVS 10 default opening clips 'TV Screen'). The distorted image plays fine in preview but continually entends beyond its original size (not just its distorted size) when creating an output file - any format.

The original image is not in the library, is in JPG format.

Any ideas ??

Image distortion solved

Post by Dereck »

I solved my problem. The Proejct Properties were set to 16:9 but I wanted and continually created the output files in 4:3 format. This explains why preview worked but I always had problems with the output files.

Ulead need to look at this one as this is simply a matter of handling the properties correctly each time the screen format is changed for embedded images and in particular resized images.
