Mpeg4 efforts

Post by melkisadek »

I'm new to this forum. I've been working with Video Studio since version 5 and now I've got v10 with the mpeg4 plug-in. I've got a Philips DVD player that will play mpeg4s. Most of my work has been capturing TV shows to mpeg2, editing out commercials, and saving to DVDs.
The other day I discovered the batch function on v10 and decided to convert 9 mpeg2s to mpeg4s. And wonder of wonders, it worked for me!!
I then copied the mpeg4 files to a CD and stuck it in a second computer and it played back flawlessly on Windows Media 10.
By the way, I'm using XP Pro on both of my PCs.
Anyway, the next step was to see if the Philips would play the MPEG4 files off the CD. It did. But there was a problem . . . no sound. It may be I have a defective DVD player. Equally or more likely, is that I'm not editing (in a loose sense) my material correctly on the PC.
To review: I batch converted 9 mpeg2 files to mepg4 with VS10.
I burned the mpeg4s (using Nero data copy) to CD and it played
back fine with windows media 10 on 2 different PCs.
It played back on my mpeg4 compatible DVD player with picture but
no sound.

My question: aside from the possibility that my DVD player is defective (as regards Mpeg4 play) . . . am I missing anything in
my correct use of VS10 :?:

Update on previous Mpeg4 post

I just got back from Best Buy store. I tested my mpeg4 cd on a brand new duplicate Philips DVD player and got the same results, good picture but no sound. So I've eliminated the issue of a defective playback unit and my question remains . . . why would mpeg4 sound play back in Windows Media 10 but not a commercial unit??

It would help if you would tell us the audio format you used on both the mpeg-2s and mpeg-4s: right click on the files within VS, write down the Properties and copy them here...
