Choppy audio and video from camera card

Post by tbweld »

:(
I've read a lot about choppy audio and video from *.avi files and capturing from mini DV. Right now, I'm trying to use some *.mov files from my two digital cameras. I imported them directly into Edit by clicking on the folder icon. I can't seem to get the settings right - the video will look ok when I play it in the edit part of the program (sometimes) and sometimes when I preview it, its choppy and screechy. I can re-click on the same clip 5 second later and it will play fine the next time.

It is always choppy in Share\Project Playback. Any ideas?

My file settings are:
Video:
Photo: JPEG (I was suprised this wasn't MPEG)
24 bit, 640 x 480
30 fps

Audio:
compression - none
Atributes: 8.00khz,8 bits mono

I'm trying to set the right project properties but can't figure out which are the right ones. Is my file format MPEG or AVI? I'm using AVI because this is the only way I can choose the audio speed. Right now I'm set at upper field first but I've tried all of them.

Are you sure it doesn't say 'MJPEG'?

.MOV is just a carrier format which can carry a variety of formats -- including various of the mpeg-4 codecs. MJPEG was a high quality predecessor of DV/AVI format, and is used in a number of digital still cameras.

You have to make sure you have the MJPEG (or other codec) properly installed on your computer. It would normally be on your camera's installation disc.

Actually it says : Photo-JPEG. I used two cameras - one was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30. It states that the pictures are 30 fps VGA Quality and are described as Quick Time Motion JPEG. I've never had problems with them in other programs.
**I just checked the specs on line for this camera and the movie format is MJPEG.

Fixed it by converting to AVI with RAD Video.
