Any kind of MPEG file I open and then try to play VS8 crashes. Also, when I try to use the little time function on the bottom right hand of the video - you know, the little thing that shows how long the clip is? When I click on that so I can edit the clip to the precise moment it also crashes. I have tried to uninstall and install - including the patches. It's still doing the same thing though.
The only thing I can think of is if I go and uninstall and then totally delete anything that's relatead to VS8 in the registry but I don't know what to delete.
Does anyone have any other ideas? This just started happening. For the longest time I was running VS8 with no problems.
I looked up some of my computer specs incase that helps at all.
Win XP Professional (5.1.2600), AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1400 MHz, Memory 255MB - Don't know if you need anything else.
If you can help please post here or reply to me at takenocrap@gmail.com
Thanks!
UPDATE: For some reason it is not crashing at this time when I use the time to edit a clip. I can click my mouse on the time or my cursor now and it won't crash. However, it still crashes when I try to playback any file.
EDITED to UPDATE again: HELP! I uninstalled and even searched for things in the registry and deleted them. Went into DOC&SETTINGS folder, found all those things and deleted. Still pulling the same old crap and now that thing with the numbers, I don't know what it's called, when I click on that and use the mouse or keys, it freezes after just sa few seconds of moved video. I installed VS7 SE DVD because I have that too. Now that's doing the same damn thing! I just tried to move the bar along the video and it froze! I don't know what to do. I can't edit any video!

If you are running 8.00 and have not upgraded to 8.01, there is a serious memory leak bug that would be causing problems that you describe. If you open the Performance Tab in the Task Manager you may be able to watch VS gobbling up all your available memory.
Moreover, you are critically short of memory. 256 MB is barely enough to get VS started, let alone edit.
You have not listed your free disk space but I woud guess that you don't have very much. This could certainly contribute to your problems. Also, your CPU is not really adequate for video editing. Time for a computer upgrade.

I upgraded to 8.01.
I WAS running VS8 since the end of December with no problems. All of a sudden this problem has sprung up.
I have 14 GIG free on my hard drive.
As for my memory, I'm not sure I'm looking in the right place to find the information. My brother built my computer for me and never gives me the specs for it! I found something that said Total Physical Memory: 255MB, Total Windows Memory 874MB.
