MPEG rendering problems post MPEG editing with VS9

Post by bhungal »

I am having lots of problems with MPEG editing with VS9, well not the editing portion but rather the finished rendered mpeg file. I had recorded a bunch of old home VHS source videos to DVD with a stand alone DVD recorder. I then imported video clips from the DVD (5 minute chapters) into the VS9 timeline using the capture from DVD feature. I have followed your suggestions to match my project properties to my captured DVD video (~4000kb). I edit out material and add some titles. I then click on share and create a file with the first option which is "Match output to project setting". I check options and Smart render and apply non-square pixel rendering is checked. I give it a name and off it goes to render. When I view the resultant mpeg there are portions that play perfectly and others that pixelate and audio is really out of sync(several minutes). I have changed some settings like, uncheck smartrender but same results. I first tried 1.5 hrs of video in the prooject then 0.5 hrs but same results. This is my first attempt at VS9 and MPEG editing, I have used VS7 for about 2 years but captured only from DV camcorder using AVIs with no problems whats so ever.

Sorry to make this post so long, any help would be greatly appreciated. This seems like a great forum with many helpful people.

I would advise you to set your properties manually (rather than using "Same as Project Settings") because sometimes your project settings can be different from what you intend for the output video file. The manual procedure is explained in the Recommended Procedure (link below). See if the pixelation is still there. If so, try again with Smart-Render disabled because this can sometimes repair a defect in the mpeg stream.

Found workaround for MPEG rendering

Well I tried all the suggestions and tried various settings in VS9 and I still get pixelating and audio sync problems when using the smart render feature. When I turn smart render off, I get good usable video. The video is slightly lower quality when matching my project settings to my source video settings. My source is 4650kb bit rate and when I set the VS9 to 7000kb bitrate then the video quality looks very close to orignal.

I am going to continue to experiment with smart render to see why I am having problems. Some clips come out fine while others don't. The problem clips play fine in VS9 and they have exactly the same video settings as the ones that smart render fine. I did get a trial copy of Womble Video Wizard and will try that as well. I really the Ulead products and would like to continue to use just one product.

Thanks for the help.
