Is this program for me PART 2!!

Post by sbufkle »

Okay, I was referred to this forum by George after he reccomanded this program instead of DVD Workshop 2.

Now, I HAVENT bought the program yet, actually either! What I did was dl the VS PDF guide to see how it works.

Now I noticed it mentioned installing a video capture card or special port. Do I absolutely need this??

I have a brand new JVC hard drive cam corder that has software/cables that will get my movies onto the hard drive of my computer.. (Done by USB 2 port) should this elmiminate the need for video capture card or new special port??

Definitely. A capture card is mainly used for external *analogue* devices -- which your HDD camera most definitely is not. And a Firewire card is only necessary if you are using a mini-DV camera, which again yours is not.

You do, though, need to be aware that the JVC Everio hard drive cameras for some reason known only to JVC use their own particular format which seems to cause some people difficulties when getting it into a format which is more readily usable by VS10. The video uses the .MOD extension, and usually, though, it is only a matter of changing the .mod extension to .mpg and then importing them into VS10. Others use special programs to rename the files.

Look at this thread on the subject: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 8636#98636

If you like what you see in the PDF, download the free trial version before you lay-out the cash!

This is especially important if you are working with anything other than AVI/DV files from a mini-DV camera.

You may find it's better to use the software that came with the camera to "capture" the video via the USB-2 port.

(I often use 3 different programs. I use the capture software that came with my MPEG-2 analog capture card. Then, I use a special-purpose MPEG video editing program. Finally, I use DVD Workshop to author & burn the DVD.)

Sbufkle..I checked the internet and found the Enverio JVC hard drive camcorders have a fire wire port. If you computer has a fire wire port you can download the video from the camcorder to your computer using the firewire port. Please consider the advice from others previous to me about the different format the Enverio uses...and try to the Trial version of UVS10 plus first befor purchasing to make sure it fits your needs.

I can relate, to make graphics I often use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro & Fireworks on the same shot if needed. (Needed alot!)

Thanks for the advice from all...

It seems my Enverio comes with Power Director & Power Producer. While from initial tinkering these look good... I can see that I will get bored with the basics they seem to cover quite quickly & no doubt more up to something along the lines of Video Studio & other Ulead products...
