Is This The Right Program?

Post by sbufkle »

I have gotten myself a hard drive cam corder, & I really want an editor that can help me with custom menus, the background sounds on the menu & perhasp even chapters of the dvd itself. Obviouslty the ability to edit the 'home movies' going on these.

I am a graphics guy, & I know my way around a computer fairly well. (In other words, NO, Im not a newbie who cant even open excel & add two cells! ;) )

Id also like to tkae my old video tapes of the kids & after transferring them into the hard drive of the cam corder, make some decent DVDs to replace them. You know, "Daughter Year 1" DVD, section 1 is birth, section 2 is first bath, section 3 first step.. ect ect....

I noticed the format for the sound files. Is these any way to convert MP3s to this format to add more of a custom element to it, or perhaps a LEGAL site to dl properly formatted music for the menu ect?

Thats being said, I have surfed the web & basically from what I have read, this looks like the program for me. (DVD Workshop 2)

Since you people in here are the ones who seem to know evberything about DVD Workshop, do I sound like the right candidate that should purchase & use this product?

I appreciate any help/comments & thank you all in advance...

For getting into editing and dvd authoring, I would recommend something like Ulead's VideoStudio 10 Plus. They have a free Trial :)

DVD Workshop is more for Advanced DVD Authoring (like adding subtitles, and multiple audio tracks, and even Title Playlists). You might want these features down the road, but DVD Workshop doesn't let you do too much in terms of Video editing.

I would suggest VideoStudio because it is more of a video editing package -- and it also includes a capable DVD Authoring module.

In addition to the last reply, you could consider Ulead's DVD Movie Factory 5 which is specifically a DVD Authoring Software (if you already have an editor and don't need that function of VideoStudio 10 Plus). DVD Movie Factory is not as advanced as DVD Workshop, but there are reasons you might consider it over DVD Workshop. First is cost--DVD Movie Factory is several times cheaper than DVD Workshop. Second, there seems to be some uncertainty whether or not DVD Workshop is a "dead" program (i.e., at the end of its life and will not be updated). Thirdly, DVD Movie Factory will do most anything you will want to do.

All that said, I do own DVD Workshop and it's a great program. I hope I am wrong about its future.
