I have never had problems with jpg files till I got a Pentax Opti 5 and tried to load files to Photo Exploer. Now a random number of photos will not open from a download from the camera.
The thumbnails look like they have a gray or white pane over the photo, with a little of the poto visible. It ieven does this in the my documents view in windows.
Why won't these photos open? Or show the thumbnail?
JPG Thumbnails are not visable - grayed out

Not quite enough info here. Several questions need answers.Dan_canfish wrote:I have never had problems with jpg files till I got a Pentax Opti 5 and tried to load files to Photo Exploer. Now a random number of photos will not open from a download from the camera.

Do/did you use PEX or Windows Explorer to transfer your files to your hard drive?
In PEX, when you hover over a thumbnail, you'll get some info, specifically the file name, file size and the date of the image creation. Can you provide an example of a typical file.

When you click a thumbnail in PEX, you'll get a larger image.
What happens?
Have you tried to open one of the faulty files in a a photo editor?
When you use Windows Explorer in the film strip or thumbnail view, do the thumbnails appear the same as they do in PEX?
Finally, does this happen only to recent photos or to older ones as well?
The "problem" could be with PEX. Could be in your transfer of files or even be the photographer -as in "you didn't leave the lens cap on...?" did you?
