Problem Solved...
Thanks for listening to my burning problem folks when I wrote in a couple of days ago saying that everything went very well indeed until I got to the burning onto DVD stage which simply didn't work no matter what I did, and belive me, after much research, helps etc. etc. I did try everything out there... Unfortunately, you may or may not be pleased to hear that the solving of the problem came when I purchased the mega fantastic Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I'm sorry to have to report that it simply leaves anything that Ulead have come up with completely in the shade. I have captured, edited, and included the most fantastic edits, effects, soundtracks etc. etc. that you could wish for. The whole program is far more creative in it's design and general format which allowed me to adjust, tweak and craete to my hearts content. Also, something that Ulead are very bad on, the help system and tutorials are so clear which always keep you on the right road... Then of course came the dreaded bit, the burning sequence... This it has to be said, went like a dream, without all the total confusion which Ulead seem to drop you in at this stage of exactly which process to carry out or which direction to continue in... Once again sorry folks, but I for one won't be looking back... Thanks again... Pete...

Hi Pete
Good luck with the new video editor.
Sorry to hear you had problems with VS, some do others are ok. I¡¦m one of the lucky ones, it works like a charm.
But maybe I am a little blinkered, because I have no problems I have no reason to look elsewhere. It does what I want.
All the best
Trevor
Ps:- if you do look back--we will be still here, well someone will

You just came here for one reason, to advertise for SONY. Good luck with your toy. If I was the moderator of this forum, your post would have been edited or deleted.

It certainly is a Half-Truth.
VMS is good at what it's programmed for.
VS is good at what it's programmed for.
The program is also more expensive.
2 completely separate level of programs, can't compare them. The project targets are different.
VMS experienced users burn their dvd's the same method as VS experienced users, create dvd folders and usually another 3rd party program to perform the burn. They all have the same problems burning even in that software.
VMS7 is a scaled down version of Vegas. The target projects for both VMS7 & Vegas programs are for elementary streams and tape format. So many of the templates write the Transport Format of Mpeg to write back to a JVC D-VHS tape units and many other models/formats that require the TransPort Stream Format. These tape units are used extensively in Studios.
Having VMS7 Platinum & Ulead Products VS & MF is a nice combination of software for me. I like VMS7 because of it's audio capabilities and real-time audio editing on the fly. But I still have to export as elementary streams and multiplex them using VS, if creating a mpeg file which I don't do in VMS7 because you can't set the mpeg2 video bit-rates in that program. So I'll export as DV-Type2 & import that into VS10+. A few ways to get it to work for you. In VMS7 you cannot create a 16:9 mpeg2 file PS, only ES-2 Streams. You can create a mpeg2 file 4:3 with mpeg audio only and at a pre-defined encoder & multi-plexing settings. So as you can see the program isn't geared for mpeg editing. You cannot import a mpeg2 file with Dolby audio, trim a few frames and export to the same video/audio properties you imported at. Not possible with that program.
Has anyone found a reasonably priced program that does it all?
I think a post like he made should be not answered or deleted because his post makes no sense at all.
He's comparing apples to oranges.

Strange as it may seem...
Strange as it may seem folks, I'm genuinely not some kind of Sony spy, neither have I been paid a huge amount of money to come here and hype their products. As unbelievable as it may appear, the whole thing is totally genuine as you read it... Ulead was a good product, it just simply didn't burn, rendering the product absolutely useless to me... I had little choice but to get my paws on another program, namely Sony Vegas Studio which did the trick smoothly and efficiently and with many more options it has to be said, right up to and including the burn, job done. It would appear that we have several Ulead aficionados out here bordering on the sour grapes I feel... Sorry people, but that's life...

First off your product is not Sony's, it's a separate branch, not Sony.
No one cares that you are using another product, we all do the same.
It's the overtones in you posts that only reflect your inexperience working with video & related software.
Therefore, your judgement and opinions are very biased.
I can guarantee you will eventually have problems burning with that software like all programs do.
I will give you a good example why one program doesn't do it all and you shouldn't post in the manner that you have done.
In VMS you created a DVD using both their programs. You have to do that because it's their workflow. Most likely your dvd has Dolby Audio on it.
Now, you need to get your video from that dvd, the original with the Dolby Audio, and the complete mpeg2 file to edit it.
Open up VMS, import your dvd & export out your edited video to a new Mpeg2 file with Dolby Audio.
Not Possible with that software.
You also failed to post here that in VMS when you goto the "Render As" page and select "Mpeg2" that the "Options" button is greyed out. Because in that program you cannot select nor customize your bit-rates. If you need to fit 2 hours on a single layer dvd forget it. The default settings are for about 80-90 Minutes of video, not selectable, no choice. Also the reverse is true if you want to encode at a very high bit-rate for the best possible video.
By the way, if you go to the VMS Forum they all recommend to use Nero to burn their dvd's and not the VMS or Vegas Software. The same suggestions that the experienced users of VS post to do which you never even tried. And ulead does provide a separate burning program to do this. VMS does not.
Good luck and have fun.

And don't forget that some versions of VMS do not come with Dolby Digital. You are forced to use space-eating LPCM Audio on all your DVD's. I think they added Dolby Digital audio in DVDA Studio 4.
But as Maddrummer said -- it's the "negative" posts and manner in which they were posted. First post had an issue, and "threatened" needing to turn to another software. Several replies, but not one follow-up with what was tried, or to provide more information (lots of offers to help, but not reply).
Then the very next post (2 total at the time) was all about how you found some new software that made all your troubles go away.
Granted, this is possible (and VMS is a very capable software kit), but the manner in which you conducted yourself leaves room for doubt of your true intentions...
Regards,
George

Hi Md
I have no experience with VMS or any other programs other than VS
Yes I am blinkered
But to say :-
(I think a post like he made should be not answered or deleted because his post makes no sense at all.
He's comparing apples to oranges.)
Is that what you meant to say
Hi All
There are many posts that make no sense, but we work through them, and answer to the best of our knowledge.
Or am I just getting paranoid
Is this an open forum or not
The guy made two posts and we kicked him in the goolies
That¡¦s how I see it.
---------------------------------
At least he took the time to explain his intentions
And we object
Disgraceful

I agree with your statement and that's why I posted my experience using both programs. And I'll continue to use both programs depending on my projects. VMS has nice audio features. The guy made two posts and we kicked him in the goolies

I don't totally disagree with some of the other replies because someone asks you for advice, you don't follw it, then go somewhere's else, come back and make comments.
Probably shouldn't have said to delete the post, yes that's harse, Hmm, na, delete it, he's FOS anyway.
There is no BEST. It's what works BEST for you.
Can't we all just get along?
The guy comes here, frustrated, looking for help. He was polite to us, and he didn't even "bash" Ulead. He just shared his negative experience. Then, he gets rude responses.
He's found a solution, and I'm happy for him. One more happy person in the world is a GOOD THING! (Well, at least one less frustrated-person.)
As far as I am concerned, we are here to help each other. It that means recommending another program to be used along with or instead of the Ulead programs, that's OK with me. From some of the above posts, it looks like we are getting paid by Ulead!
Like my mother used to say "If you can's say anything nice, don't say anything at all!"
