Hi Lancecarr,
I finally installed a free version of the Isobuster and it seems to have located the missing file. Obviously, from there, I paid for the full version and hope to recover the file and.......Good grace, it worked!
I was able to salvage the 2 video files using Isobuster; though a few image file (ie, taken using the Sony DVD camcorder at camera mode) are still gone but who cares!
I hope my experience here could be helpful to most encountering the same problem. Please kindly note that I'm not a technical guy and I'm afraid I have problem to give anyone detail account or analysis of how this things finally work but I got what I needed.
I'm happy with the less than $30 spent on the Isobuster .....esp when I envisage more such problem to come.
I would, at the same time, caution all users of Sony DVD camcorder users to keep, at least 3-5 minutes of unrecorded space out of the 30 minutes on one side to avoid problematic situation due to disc full.
Painful experience though....
Once again, thanks everyone for their help. Bit by pieces of these helps build up a useful data base for idiotics users like myself.
Ben

Hi Ben, I am glad it all worked resonably ok in the end!
As a final note to your recommendation to allow five minutes at the end of the disc to avoid problems.
The ONLY time I can recall anyone having this kind of problem or any problem finalising on the Sony Cams has been when they are specifically using +RW discs. I personally never used them and only ever used -R discs and never had a problem. The -R's have the added advantage of leaving you with an original backup copy as well.

Hi Lancecarr,
Point well taken. Now there are more brands of mini DVD-R in the market (verbatim, memorix, etc) at far more reasonable costs than Sony ones. Ain't a bad idea to use one sided mini DVD-R and at the same time get a back up copy - especially on important occassion.
For casual shooting, say, like when I take down my son practising bowling to point out anything about his posture, I'll stick to the DVD+RW which I alraedy have as I don't intend to keep these practice shots and I don't mind if anything goes wrong with these video.
Regards,
Ben
